375ml bottle. Apperance: A Hazy dark brown body, with a medium off-white head.
Aroma; Peat, Idione, whisky, caramel, roasted malts.
Taste: below moderate sweetnees, moderate bitter, big peat tones, green apples, caramel, nuts, some sugary tones. Barrel totally overpowers most of the origanal tones.
Medium to full body with moderate carbonation.
Better as the orginial, but the barrel seems to overdo it. Gangstergafje (1384) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - OCT 15, 2017
15-10-2017; bottle; at home (bought online at www.drankgigant.nl, Oost-Souburg, The Netherlands).
The looks of the beer are nice. They are quite similar to the looks of #0. The beer has a nice orange brown color. It had a nice amber glow. The color is lighter than of #0. It is quite cloudy, with some flakes floating around. It is less flakey than #0 though. Not bad. On top of the beer some nice soft almond colored foam is formed. Foam retention is average. A nice drape is left after a while. No lacing is left on the glass.
The smell of the beer is nice. It sure is peaty. The smell is stronger than in the #0. I smell some sweet malts and a hit of chocolate and plum. Hops give some bitterness. But the strongest aroma that is present is that of peat. It is strong, but not astringent. It has a nice iodine touch to it. Lovely.
The taste of the beer is also very nice. It has a full sweet maltiness. I taste chocolate, some liquorice, plum and some red fruits. Hops give a nice fresh bitterness. Also the peat gives some of the bitterness, nice iodine and a sour touch. Lovely. It is perfectly balanced.
The palate of the beer is very nice. Full body, smooth, slightly creamy. Carbonation is medium. The finish of the beer is nice. It has some nice peat in it, but also nice sweet and flavourful malts and a bitter hoppy touch. All in all, a lovely beer. Better than #0. McGiggle (3) - - JUL 25, 2017 does not count
