Pours clear brown ruby with tan head.
Aroma spice, some alcohol, caramel, licorice.
Taste caramel spicy sweets.
(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 19 Feb 2016) Hazy amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty nose with biscuits, citrus peel, dried fruit and spices. Malty taste with notes of bread, biscuits, orange peel, cinnamon, bread spices, a touch of ginger and balanced spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. On the sweet side, but tasty and spicy. Nice one.

Bottle. Pours dark copper with a small head. Aroma of spices: cloves, cinamon, cardamon, ginger with some spiciness from yeast, pepper. Bottle sampled at Essen Winterbier festival 2015. Appears very hazy brown with a big bubbly cream head. Aroma of speculaas, veggies, yeast, overripe dark fruit and caramel. Bottle. Pours slightly hazy, dark amber in colour, small head. Aroma and taste of speculas bidcuits, ginger, clove, cinamon, cardamon. In tastes like christmas biscuits. In taste not too sweet, medium body, low carbonation. Finish is lightly sweet. Alcohol well hidden. Very well done beer with speculas flavour, maybe more old ale not bw, but still tasty. 75cl bottle shared at home. Hazy reddish brown with a medium off-white head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Herbal bitterness with some sweet tones. A hybrid of barley wine and Doppelbock, thanks to Craftmember for bringing this from the Netherlands. Frothy, egg-white, lacing, milky head over a hazy mahogany coloured beer with bronze hue. Aroma of gingerbread and ’pepernoot’ (quite appropriate for this time of the year!), caramel, some ’natural’ iron, amaretto, dried leaves, cocoa, dried banana, peach and of course the old familiar ’speculoos’. Soft sweet onset with a clear (intended) ’speculoos’ flavour not unlike Ecaussinnes’ Cookie Beer but less one-dimensional, surrounded by hints of fig, medlar and candied orange, soft carbo, fluffy caramelly malt sweetness underneath with a very light toasted accent somewhere; ends in ongoing speculoos sweet spiciness well paired with a soft, gentle, leafy and herbal hop bitterishness and a glow of warming, slightly liqueurish alcohol. Sweet, but in a multidimensional and subtle kind of way, beautifully balanced with faint sourish and gently bittering flavours - this is delicious.
