Pours a two finger light brown head that fades to a shallow layer and leaves a good lace. Almost black with faint mahogeny color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Starts sweet but balanced with the hops, nutty flavor, slight hoppy bite at finish, good brown. $1.39 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Market Tigard, Or. Pours a rich, onyx black with an aroma of smokey chocolate. Nice hints of roasted malt in there as well. Ample lacing around the glass. Mmmmmm, nice roasty flavor with an abundance of sugary sweetness in the finish that never overpowers- it’s prominent, but subdued enough so that it never becomes offensive. Watery but flowing palate seems to be the lone lowlight here. A great beer; a definite repeat if there ever was one.
Pours a medium brown with a diminishing but lacy tan head. Aroma is dominated by nuts with chocolate and a light floral hop presence. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation Flavor is nuts, coffee, toffee and a bit of burnt toast. Dry, lightly bitter finish. harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - APR 11, 2006
Average but still tasty. Aroma is nice and nutty, with some chocolate covered almonds and hazelnuts. Chocolate covered maltballs, finish is way too light and just drops off the palate, other than that this is quite a tasty little brown ale. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 18, 2006
12 oz bottle, via trade with someone I forget. Pours a dark chestnut brown with a small fizzy off-white head that fades to a thin film quickly. Nice milk chocolate nose with alot of nutty toasted malt. Flavor is way off, very grainy and harsh malts up front that actually fades to a decent tasting finish. Light to medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. A little watery on the finish. Not real impressed with this one, not worth seeking out.

Aroma is very hard to pick up. No getting any malt sweetness or anything really cept some hops. Deep brown color with a thin diminishing head. Fore is a bit watery...not thin...just watery tasting. Then some nice malt flavor comes in a slow progression of nutty toasty malts. Actually get some mild coffee/porter flavors in the finish. DarkElf (3062) - La Jolla, California, USA - DEC 15, 2005
(12 oz bottle: Bottleworks in Seattle, WA) A solid if unspectacular attempt at a brown ale, this is chocolaty, roasty, mildly bitter, moderately sweet, just like most of the tastier brown ales I’ve tried. It could be more aromatic though, as I’m just getting some mild chocolate and roast. Body is medium, and while not watery per se, I’m left wishing this had a bit chewier mouthfeel. Carbonation is fine at this moderate level. Dark brown color is fairly clear, so I can still see through the beer a little. The light tan head pours to almost an inch in height, and shows the typical retention, gradually settling to a wide ring. Not much lacing, just a smattering of patches here and there. Overall, the beer fails to distance itself from the group with anything unusual or daring, but it’s still entirely enjoyable. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 9, 2005
Pours a reddish brown. Caramel malt aromas with a hint of nut. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate with some smokey nut aftertaste. biz82 (1327) - austin, Texas, USA - OCT 12, 2005
Dark red with a thick head. Slightly oxidized, floral, musty caramel malt aroma. Very smooth in flavor and on the palate. Nice body. Mild, nutty caramel flavor. Overall, a bit bland. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - SEP 4, 2005
Bottle. Pours a deep borwn color with some spare ruby hints when backlit. Light tan head which leaves a slight amount of lacing. Aroma is very coffee-like, some nuts. Light bodied, bodering on watery on the palate. A touch overcarbonated. Flavor is nicely roasted with coffee and chocolate qualities. Fair brown ale, needs more body however.
