Bottle. Pours dark yellow with thin head. Aroma somewhat weak, pine and citrus notes. Flavor is malt, floral, pine and some citrus in the back. Bitter finish. English ipa not my favorite style, but not to shabby. jgb9348 (6324) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Crisp very slightly hazy amber and copper coloured body with a super thick, dense five centimetre tall tan head - very nice looking. Aroma of bright grassy and herbal hops with a hint of malt, some alcohol and a bit of bitterness noticeable in the nose. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive grassy and citrus hops noticeable up front with a good malt backbone and a nice, sweet, piney hop flavour and an apricot and fruit sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows some good hops with a nice sweetness and a great malt backbone. Overall, a nice, but not amazing IPA - good to sample for sure, but if I could only have one from the west coast, this wouldn’t be it. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, California on 05-August-2012 for US$4.97 sampled at home in Washington on 11-November-2012. Hazy amber color; medium sized head. Light hoppy aroma. The mouthfeel is dry, but the caramel flavor has a shade of crystal malt; some resiny hopping, and hints of fruits. Drinkable but simple.
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours amber with a slight haze and a smalllish white head. A little citrus and pine atop quite some caramel. Medium body, again quite a caramel base and then a solid hoppiness where - fortunately - the American varieties dominate! Good bitterness. 021112 wlajwl (6879) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - OCT 27, 2012
Aroma is citrus, pine and toffee. The flavor is citrus, fruit, toffee, malts and a tangy/bitter finish. Wittales (762) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - OCT 18, 2012
Appearance was clear orangish honey gold with diminishing creamy white 1 finger head, lacing throughout. Aromas are sweet caramel, crystal, cara, 2 row malts. Hops of grapefruit, orange, hints of lemon, spicey yeasts no alcohol present. Taste are simple with milder sweetness of malts, spice, pine , citrus fruits with soft resinous bite. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with meduim body, then lasting resinous bitter slightly dryish finish. Good English IPA... Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - OCT 13, 2012
22oz bottle from Binny’s Plainfield. Pours a hazed golden colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit pines and light florals with a medium sweet caramel and crystal malt backing. The hops are pretty fresh right now so the crystal isn’t excessively sweet, which is nice. Flavor is similar. Bigger, fresher grapefruit pines and resins with a crystal and caramel malt sweetness. Still avoids becoming overly cloying or sweet thanks to the freshness of the hops. A good amount of florals with a touch of toast before this finishes very dry, moderately bitter, and resiny with a bigger grapefruit pine and medium sweet caramel/crystal. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty good IPA. Fresh, resiny, bitter grapefruits with a firm crystal and caramel malt backing. Not bad.
