4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Societe. I have to admit I didnt even want to try this beer since all their IPAs were so delicious but a friend said this stout is awesome and I can now confirm this. Black as black. Big roasted malt nose with some big smoke... Taste is roasted malts, nuts, smoke in a big way, spicey. Damn this is good. The smoke and spiceyness in this is awesome. Alcohol is hidden well. Fully bodied but creamy smooth.. Great beer!
Tap at The Mayor. Dark inky pour with a brown head. Roasty, a little ashy. Dense palate. Terrific. MetalNHopHead (2182) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - JUL 12, 2017
I don’t know if early afternoon on an eighty-three-degree-day is the right time or place for an Imperial Stout in Southern California, but it sure didn’t make The Butcher any less enjoyable. This is an Imperial Stout that’s true to form. No added flavors or gimmicks. Near-black color and a viscous consistency. Malty nose with aromas of fresh coffee, dark chocolate, and subtle dark fruit. The flavor follows along. More coffee, chocolate, and hints of fruit with a healthy dose of char and anise. Full-bodied feel, but it’s still well-balanced. Wish I could have brought some home with me. TylerGreenDC (1046) - - JUL 7, 2017
Draft. Ara of chocolate cake batter. Flavors follow nose, with lots of roasty bakers chocolate and chewiness. Finishes really slowly, with lots more chocolate. Never sweet. frankR (148) - Livermore, California, USA - JUN 12, 2017
Huge chocolate malt. Aroma is coffee, coca, smoke. Dark chocolate/smoke bitter. Complex beer. What an Imperial Stout should be. Smooth light finish. Not over sweet. Finish is like a smoked porter. Travlr (26065) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAY 21, 2017
Draft at the source. Opaque brown color. Aroma of fruity coffee. Taste is rich nutty fruity brownies dipped in coffee. Delicious.

Bomber from Final Gravity in Roseville, CA. Pours dark brn/blk with a slight dark tan head. Aroma of toffee, anise, chocolate, maybe coffee. Med ++ body. Flavor is earthy chocolate, earthy dark malt, anise, dark coffee, and lots of other stuff. I call complex. It’s not dry, but it’s so earthy and decently bitter, it might as well be called dry. Or malty, malty, malty. Amazingly tasty ale. Excellent. klm1 (1844) - Bled/SF, - JAN 17, 2017

On tap at Hops and Pie poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of bakers cocoa, roasted malt, licorice and light coffee. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee and light earthiness with a smooth lingering bitter chocolate finish. ajnepple (7052) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 20, 2016
On tap at Hops & Pie. Black appearance with a brown head, dissipating to a ring of foam. Aroma of molasses, black licorice, roasted malt, dark fruity esters, light chocolate and light coffee. Similar flavor, rich, dark, malty, fruity and complex with moderate malt sweetness and light roasted bitterness. Medium to full body.
