Very slightly cloudy light golden hue with a thin foamy white head. Funky dusty aroma thats a little estery toward the banana end of the spectrum, with a light kiss of bitter orange peel. Crisp and dry and Belgian estery flavor thats Saison-esque and banana ish, dry and wheaty finish.

May 9th, 2014 - Societe has been calling, beckoning, inviting me over for most of my time here in San Diego, and today I make the trip, stepping into the old-timey enchantment theyve cast on their beers, walls and other marketing materials. And the line of tasters (my favorite introduction to a brewery) begins with their Harlot, a medium-light yellow beer with a considerable edge of foam, given the small and stunted glass it suffered in. The aroma is lemony sweet with a carefree wisp of floral essence, and a springtime scent that would be welcome in luxury hotels and open houses everywhere. The palate is fascinating, long, low and powering the flavors, sweet but not cloying, with something that reminds me of snapdragons in my parents backyard. This is a very enticing introduction to Societes beers, and validates their reputation amongst my colleagues and SD beer scene vets.

Pint poured at societe brewery. Pours clear golden color with slight white head. Smells like pepper and straw. Tastes peppery with a yeasty finish. Not my favorite but its still a drinkable beer.

Draft at The Brigintine. Pale yellow pour with smallish head. Belgian aromas but the flavor was much happier than I expected. Seemed like a lot of California influence on this Belgian style

On tap @ Urban Solace restaurant, San Diego. Medium gold, lasting white head. Grassy, somewhat savoury character with biscuit malt. Not truly herbal, hard to pin down.

7 oz. pour at First Draft. This is a light yellow with active carbonation and a white head. Seems like a pretty straight forward Belgian ale. Esters are nice, giving it a floral, spicy, and papery aroma. The body is medium with a dry finish. Pleasant fruity yeast comes through in the flavor with a relatively assertive hop presence. The malt bill seems pretty simple, adding some bready sweetness.
