MetalNHopHead (2125) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - JUL 10, 2017
My afternoon at Societe basically consisted of hops, hops, and more hops. The Publican brought me to a happy place. Gold color. Floral and earthy hop smells. Flavor starts off with some biscuit/cracker malt and then transitions into grassy, piney, citrusy, and spicy hops. I had a harder time picking out distinct flavors in this because of how beautifully balanced it was. Dry, crisp mineral finish.

deyholla (12031) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 17, 2017
Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma combines grass, citrus and hay with a bit of bread underlying. Flavor has a good amount of earthy pine with grass and a bit of grain backing.

(En fût à la source): Celle-là tranche et ouvre les pores de la langue. C’est citronné, gazonné, juteux et bien amer. La signature Societe déchire la feuille.

GarrettB (1636) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 14, 2016
May 9th, 2014 - Of all the Societe beers I see around San Diego, the Publican seems to get the most traction, especially at bars and pubs, where it’s always in someone’s hand. I attribute this to the bitter happiness in the smell and taste, which appeal to San Diegan preferences for more intense levels of IBUs in their beer. The Publican is not quite the San Diegan IPA, but closer to an American Pale Ale, with a beautiful, bright yellow lustre that shines even in the relative dim of the tasting room. Rust and leather (a smell I closely associate with the rodeo) give off a very masculine hops profile, but the flavor is milder than this aroma suggests. Hops dominates, but it isn’t shockingly bitter, instead pushing a lemony, bitter green and mizuna hops, more like a healthy salad than a hops cone to the mouth. The appeal is real, and will likely only spread as taps open up, and Society fills out its application for a coveted spot at the bar.

corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 29, 2015
Pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow color with straw colored edges and a one finger pillowy white head that quickly settle into a thick, lasting ring. Splotchy lacing left behind. Earthy hop aroma with subtle resin and a clean pale malt backbone. Hop profile is sort of one dimensional with a ton of fresh cut grass. Could use some more pine resin character or some fruit sweetness. Pale malt backbone wih bread and biscuit. Pedestrian but the grassy hop presence is pleasant. Light body and similar to the aroma with dry, earthy bitterness countered by pale malt and light fruit esters. Dry and bitter with lots of sticky, grassy hop flavor followed by biscuit, bread and cracker along with apple and pear sweetness. Very easy to drink with no heat. Sessionable but not all that interesting. Hop flavors are one dimension but pretty flavorful. Light and lacking in complexity but decent enough and pretty easy to drink.

Tap at source clloudy orange. Pine citrus nose. Taste hoppy bitter with muddy finish. Ok. Guess.
