COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In ancient times “Chequers” berries were used to flavour ale, which is thought to be the origin of the Chequers as a pub name.
Local Chequers berries from Brampton wood, spelt wheat and autumn honey give this beer its autumn red colour and smooth, rich, fruity flavour. Enjoy a taste of “Chequers Past” Exclusively available at the Chequers for £9.50 a bottle, whilst stock last.

Very hazy dark pink - purple - brown beer! Good pale tan head. Light airy palate, semi dry. Creamy malt. Minerally and fairly dry. Light fruity flavour which is presumably the chequer berries. Whisper of black fruits as well - it’s all quite sublte. Frothy minerally finish. Was hoping for something a bit more special from a beer so expensive but it’s all right.

On cask at the Ely Winter Beer Festival, 2012. Pours a very dark brown colour with a decent light tan head. Aroma of apples, apple seed, berries and caramel. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and quite a dry finish. Interesting.

Cask (CWAF2012, Fri) (Actually had "chequered past and present", but have no concrete details on how that differs from this.)
Big spiky esters and menthol aroma. Honey and a huge hazelnut finish. Malty oriented. A touch flat.

dark amber brown with big solid fluffy cream head. aroma of tart redcurrant and blackberry with a slight metallic hop tang. Fairly carbonated, at first tart berries but becoming a more ordinary brown ale with dry malt and metallic bitter finish.
