EVER THE PURIST, David approached pear cider cautiously. Often cloyingly sweet, he deemed few worthy of the Sonoma Cider name. So the bar was set at: balance, nuance, intensity or not at all. Contrasting crisp and creamy, aromatic and tart, he added all-natural pear flavors to Sonoma’s distinct small-apple blend until he found something genuine, with real cider integrity.

Pitchfork is our happy ending. It’s an apple connoisseur’s pear cider, hand-crafted with organic apples and a measured infusion of pear essence. It’s both intense and balanced, greeting you with the distinct aromas of both fruits. We’re convinced its fresh play of flavors, crisp start and creamy pear finish will inspire a fan club all its own. With David, the skeptic, presiding. Bottom’s up.

Bottle shared by DrSilverworm from notes. Pours a clear yellow golden color with no head. The aroma and flavor have sweet apple cider character, pears, flat carb, is it different than most ciders, a little but it’s still a cider and doesn’t excite me much.

MicroGrog (367) - FT: Stale Polotmavý in Queens, New York, USA - MAR 29, 2017
Bottle from some random 7-11 near the waterfront south Boston proper. Rounded pint glass. Clear, dark amber body. Quick to settle, but lingering whispy head. Smells of vanilla, green apples, wax, & sharply sweet supermarket pears. Slick, low carbonated apple juice. Hint of vanilla. Fair amount of pear skin drying things out. Lots of eating pear flavor. Nothing amazing, but it doesn’t taste too artificial, & these days that’s a win.

Bomber from Tiffany’s- Not much lacing, but very active carbonation. Pear with faint caramel smell. Taste matches the scent. Tart finish to the faint sweetness. Pretty nice and crisp.

Clean & crisp. Very smooth cider that smells delicious. Boring pour but has a nice mouthfeel to it. Really nice.

seymour (2045) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - SEP 18, 2016
Shared from 12oz brown bottle into goblets, it poured a mostly-clear golden colour, some chill haze, no head nor lace. Still predominantly tart apple cider, not nearly enough pear flavour. Too sweet, too fizzy, a bit harsh and metallic. Drinkable but not great.

fuzzcro (295) - Illinois, USA - MAY 21, 2016
A nice compliment to a warm summer day. Light in aroma and in flavor. A lovely lemon colored appearance. Refreshing and clean tasting. A bit too carbonated for my palate but still a nice cider to relax with on a hot day.

Apple, circus peanuts, and butter nose. Clear golden. Circus peanuts with an apple finish. Sweetness seems to come from outside the fruit. Medium body, moderate carbonation.

Theydon_Bois (19506) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 11, 2016
Keg at Bilcos, Napa, 01/02/16. Golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is sweet apple, straw, grainy notes. Taste comprises sweet apple pulp, hay, light funk, caramelised sugars. Medium bodied, fairly aggressive spritzy carbonation, drying close. Not good, way too sweet, typical Merican overly sweet cider.
