Sample at Great Taste of the Midwest on 08/09/2014: Inky black color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and mint. Medium body with flavors of mint chocolate, malt and mild coffee. Barrel aging is very subtle. The finish is sweet with cocoa and slight bourbon aftertaste. Decent overall. This was a treat from an unknown member of the Flossmoor Station Mug Club who brought a growler to last night’s tapping, forming an interesting contrast to the DIPA being consumed. It looked almost black in the glass, showing some brown around the edges, and had a smallish tan head. The aroma was of Frango Mints, chocolatey and minty, and brought back bad memories of Christmas shopping in days of yore. Only a light touch of Bourbon came through in the flavor. It was mainly Peppermint Patties (better memories here) with some coffee and dark caramel. A bit thin, over all. Not bad, but also not a brew that I would want a steady diet of. Oily black pour with a nose of fresh mint and java. Flavors follow pretty much a straight line...mint, coffee, chocolate, touch of the bourbon barrel. Just OK.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of bourbon, mint, milk chocolate, light roastiness and a hint of coffee. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of mint, milk chocolate and light roastiness with a smooth lingering chocolate mint finish. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 22, 2011
South shore bourbon barrel mint stout. 22oz bottle thanks to a recent trade... Pours a dark cola pour with lighter edges and roped with a thin light beige head... Aroma is slightly black licorice, mint through the middle with a slight bourbon bent in the finish... Flavors are thin with a light chocolate and mint bent. Too fluffy and lack of robust flavor. Barrel notes are a bit too assertive at the end adding a booziness that doesn’t mesh well with the consistency of the brew.

poured a deep brown with a fizzy tan head that fades. aroma was very upfront with mint, then cinnamon, oak, and chocolate. flavor was mint, watery coffee, dark roasts, and alcohol. body was thin and fizzy. I had really high hopes for this one. I just wish the base was an impy stout or something stronger. loafgoat (53) - Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 4, 2011
Smells of mint chocolate chip icecream. Finish is a combination of mint and hops. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - OCT 14, 2011
750ml bottle poured into snifter. Dark black pour with thin head. Aroma has slight hints of peppermint and chocolate but not a lot of bourbon. Flavor isn’t too exiting. Very faint hints of chocolate and malt, other then that it’s somewhat bland and boring.
