Bottle shared by Facto. Dry chocolatey, coffee-roast malt in the aroma. Apples, chocolate, and roast malt in hte flavor with some alcohol in the finish. Thin mouthfeel. Dissapointing beer for an "imperial porter". shameusburp (171) - Virginia, USA - JUL 29, 2005
Bomber purchased at the Foodery in Philadephia. I was expecting more from this legendary brewer. Not much roastiness or any other bountiful flavors. asheft (3062) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2005

Very dark brown with okay lacing and very thin, wispy head and ring. Roasty bourbon aroma with some ethanol and maybe some nuts. The flavour is straight up roast with some British-ish pear/apple and nutty raisin. Medium body, low carbonation and a clean finish. Probably a bit too sweet overall. Black, with thin tan head. Freshly roasted coffee and burnt toast aroma. Very smooooooove, with big flavors of fudge, coffee, root beer. Rich and satisfying, this one obviously well made. Really, really tasty! Thanks to Springslicker for this one! shadey (2125) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 22, 2005
Pour is black with a creamy tan head. Do NOT drink this cold. You won’t smell anything. Let this baby warm up a little and the aroma sneaks out. Some roast, some toffee. Doesn’t smell great, but attractive. Palate is smooth with a little carbonation. Creamy and smooth. Flavor is mild. Some chocolate. I am underwhelmed, after I’ve heard about this beer.

A bomber, thanks to Zathrus13 for the trade. Opened on my birthday, happy birthday to me, now onto the beer. Dark chocolate with a hint of anise in the aroma, it sort of reminds me of many Imperial Stouts, but not near as strong. Second whiff brings out some of the caramel and toffee. Nice, but it doesn’t make me want to sniff forever. Very dark brown with slight hints of light showing through the edges. Tall, light tan head that thins out over time. Great bitter, roasted chocolate flavor initially changing into a sweeter caramel and toffee flavor that rises into the back of your mouth. The chocolate, caramel and toffee combine to form an almost licorice flavor. Soft feel, medium body, slightly chalky texture. Very good, I like this one. UPDATED: JUL 22, 2005 Thanks to hopdog for sending this in a trade. My bottle simply calls this Imperial Porter and the neck tag shows XXII Reserve. Near midnight black with a mahogany tinge around the edges. Small tan foam bubbles around the edges of the glass. Nose is roasty and semi-sweet. Plums, raisins, light alcohol, light coffee and hints of molasses. Taste is excellent!! Dark fruits, molasses, light toffee, coffee, roasted malts, dark bitter chocolate and hints of brown sugar. Body is rich and creamy with a light lingering bitterness. Finishes with dark fruits, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Light alcohol in the finish as well. I really enjoyed this one! Doesn’t feel quite oily enough to be a lager yeast, I think - perhaps this is why it says Baltic-style porter? Plummy, raisiny, and delectably sweet without going overboard, but just not meaty like the biggest baddest ones on the block (Heavyweight’s Hammer). Well balanced and with just a touch of drying, slightly piney hops lingering. Picked up at BotW in Rochester for 6.95 but now available for 2 bucks less at Table and Vine, Northampton, MA. Bummer. Not up to SHPH standards...

Poured dark brown with a small dark beige head. I’m assuming this is the Baltic porter even though my bottle is different. Big sweet roasted malt aroma with a nuttiness to it. Flavor is sweet and decadent with loads of chocolate and nuts. Light hops in the finish. Very good. jercraigs (10303) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 13, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2007 Bottle. Black body with a small frothy tan head (3+). Sweet malt with moderate mocha roast and dark bitter chocolate. Sweet rich malt flavour has notes of chocolate and very mild mocha roast. Chocolate notes last long into the aftertaste, and are joined by mild light coffee and raisins at times.(8+) Smooth medium palate could use a touch more carbonation to avoid becoming syrupy, but is otherwise very nice. Very nice. 8-8+/3+/8+/3+/17-18 - 4.2
<P>RBSG 2005. Dark brown-black body with a small khaki head. Mild roast, malt and dark chocolate in the aroma. Flavour is likewise with a very mild roast, sweet malt and muted dark chocolate. Medium-full bodied. Awesome. 7/4/9/4/18 - 4.2
