(10/25/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Southampton. Clear pale golden color. Aroma of pale malt, a bit of fresh hops with light grassy and citrus notes. Sweetish malty flavor with some graininess a slightly drier finish. Light to medium-bodied. A decent light beer.

4 oz. sample, on tap at the brewpub. Consumed on 7-31-08. "Beery," metallic aroma features light citrus (mainly lemon). Pours a clear, effervescent pale gold with near-white head. Looks pretty cool for what it is. The taste is that of an above average pale lager. There’s not much to it, but it’s not offensive. Fizzy, crisp, and lively on the palate. Light body, but not as light as I expected.

The one thing I have to give this credit for is that it was extremely smooth. Other than that this is an extremely poor beer. Pours like urine. Smells like water. Tastes like grass. I am embarrassed to say that I got this for the rating from the otherwise excellent brew pub known as the South Hampton Publick House.

Draught at the SPH Brewpub. First off I must state that I am by no means a Light Beer Drinker. Very pale yellow pour with a good head. Boring and bland flavour. Would go well with a glass of water w/o lemon and a salad with no dressing.

On tap at the Publick House. Pours incredibly pale, almost just a lightly tinged water. Foamy and rising in crisp white above. No aroma. Flavor immeadiately develops that predictable rubbery sharpness, thats unbearable. Really thin and lacking. Ick. Finish is grassy. Why makes this when you have the Golden Lager? This is just as bad as most other pale lagers.

On-tap at the Publick House 8-07. Pours a straw yellow. Very light nose. Flavor is pretty thick for a light beer. Grassy and earthy a bit with a slight metallic tone. Feel has a decent bubble and a pretty good liquid touch. For what it is, its decent, I guess.

Sampled @ SPH. Pours that familiar golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is hops with faint grass and malt. Taste is pretty nice, with some malt and wheat/grain characteristics. Im not a fan of light beers overall, but this is the best example Ive seen.

On tap at the SPH. The beer arrived at the table a clear pale gold with virtually no head. Very light, almost indistinct aroma of grains and hops. A bit more flavorful than the aroma would have you believe with some light grains and finishes with some light hops bitterness. Body was a bit thin, but compared to other light beers, was very acceptable. Very easy to drink and a good change of pace from the heavy beers Ive been drinking lately.

Tap at SPH - Straw, thin white fizzy head. Weak nose of corn and florals, maybe a hint of earth. Flavor is similar with nothing but blandness across the board. Thin and watery, light carbonation, very lightly hopped finish. I mean I guess its better then Michelob ultra, but this is far from my thing. It is what it is....

Tap at SPH, 11-2-05. As an aside, I didnt order this, the assistant brewer brought it to me and insisted I try it after a lengthy discussion about the perils of not carrying it, due to the locals high demand for something so light and watery. But, wait a minute. For this style, its not all that bad, in fact its quite drinkable for a pale lager. Very faint grainy aroma, intermittent grassy hops. Light bodied, but full for this style. Flavor is more of the same, little touch of cornmeal, slightly bitter. I just wish such an amazing brewery wouldnt cater to the public with this all too often, easy to come by type of beer. I know economics is the name of the game, oh well. Why do I care, it probably takes Phil 30 seconds to whip this brew out.
