COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Bay style means understanding that some things are best left unchanged. Lager is one of those things – an authentic thirst-quenching beverage that hits the spot, every time. Southern Bay Draught is free of preservatives or additives. We brew it naturally to create the flavour you know you love. Local malted barley and fresh New Zealand hops infuse its light-golden colour with malt sweetness and moderate crisp-finish bitterness.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2018 Pours from the bottle a clear golden straw colour with a thin head that quickly departs. Faint aromas of cut grass and bread. Tastes of biscuit, corn syrup and finishes with a metallic thin bitterness. Very little to like.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2017 Plain old lager, taste is clean but not much else. Could be a macro pub lager.

121216. Bottle from Boozebud. Looked a lot more full bodied in the glass than I was expected but when the beer hit the mouth it was thin bodied. Pure white head atop a slighty murky and hazy honey coloured beer. There is a sweet maltiness in the aroma that also is the the aftertaste.

330ml bottle into schooner. Faint malt nose, a little metal. Slightly hazy golden beer, thin head, medium carbonation. Mineral water taste and feel. Finish is thin and metallic. Bog standard Aussie lager. Uninspired and uninspiring.

The epitome of 80’s draught beer as it sits in the glass. Amber, sparkling and fuelled by a persistent flurry of carbonation. Soapy, adhesive foam atop lasts and leaves a film of white frost upon the glass. Aroma is dominated by a note of leavened white-bread dough, raw and floury with only a gest of metallic hops to break it up - not good. Dowdy and floury on the palate too with so much metal in the finish I’d barely be mistaken for thinking I was sucking on the fender of an HQ Holden. Light bodied but expectedly soapy in feel and slick as it slips past the tonsils. Each swallow had me shudder. I couldn’t finish this one. So close to those macro’s of the 80’s I near keeled over with flash-back dread, Not for me!! (33cL, BB 13/01/14, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Pours gold with a small fading head. Nose shows cardboard-like malt, vegetal notes and very faint caramel. Sweet flavours, some clean malt at first before cardboard stale notes and grainy malt show through. Body feels watery, too much carbonation.
