Smells malty, almost chocolately. Average apperance and palate. Tastes pretty good - not as thick as I expected.
Weird pour. I’m pouring it aggressively, and it’s there. About half finger head, but it’s so dense. It was like motor oil, glub glub. My glass seems like it should be more full. Aroma is pretty rich. Lots of coffee, chocolate, caramel. Touch of alcohol. Dark fruit. Wine.
Taste is toasty from malt and coffee. Brown sugar, hint of vanilla. Not as much chocolate in the taste. Nuttiness. Hint of licorice at the end.
Mouthfeel is medium full. A little chalky. Alcohol is not hidden.
Overall, it’s not bad. Hide that alcohol and it could work. I might or might not buy it again. I might or might not recommend it. I would probably buy it again, if the price was right.
Ar: Wet malt and sherry--oxidation; cocoa powder, dark caramel. Ap: Black and opaque; very large tan head with good retention, leaves a ring of fine lacing sticking to the glass sides and a cap of dense foam. T: Cocoa and cherries; sharp, slightly tannic; cocoa and dark caramel; some treacle; sherry-like oxidation, with some sharp caramels. P: Medium-full body with high carbonation; finish is medium. Keg at Yard House, Houston. It pours dark brown with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich, earthy roast, loads of coffee grounds, toasted brown bread and bit of meatiness almost. The taste is bitter, earthy roast, charred wood, filter coffee, coffee cake, toasted nut, wood and some alcohol through the finish. Medium - full body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Black draft pour at the conservatory in Houston. Tons of creamy white head. Sweet and Cocoa flavors. Milky malty and very tasty

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2016 Dark brown pour, fair sized head, livelier carbonation. Sweet Dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, black coffee dominate the aroma and taste with a healthy blast of bitter hops. Caramel and nuts in the aftertaste. Surprisingly thinner body. Sweet at first, then roasty dryness.. Lots of coffee. On nitro so really creamy head. On tap at bangers on wilson cousins trip.
