Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

The aroma is very toasted with sweet chocolate, coffee, and overcooked mixed grains. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The taste is like the aroma but bitter and dry. The palate is average. Overall not bad but noting special.

Bottle poured a dark nutty brown in color with a thin cover of tan head that fell to a ring on the glass. Aroma has sweet chocolate, dark brown sugar, light coffee bitterness, and a hit of lactose. Mouth feel is on the light side and the carbonation average. Flavor brings in some roasted malt, dark chocolate, creeping bitterness, brown sugar sweetness, and lactose. It is definitely a big beer that brings plenty of chewy malts to the table. So much that the lactic side though it is big just can not keep up.

Bottle. Lactose, sweet chocolate, and light coffee aroma. Near black with a moderate brown head. Roasty charred malt, bitter dark chocolate, espresso, and a long bitter hop finish. Medium to full body, light carbonation. The bitter and charred elements in this one overpowered the lactose

My taste encountered three tastes, first a sweet stout flavor, then smoky and bitter, then rich and creamy.
