Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called cream or sweet stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker. Surely! Of course, we couldnt stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Bottle. Lactose, sweet chocolate, and light coffee aroma. Near black with a moderate brown head. Roasty charred malt, bitter dark chocolate, espresso, and a long bitter hop finish. Medium to full body, light carbonation. The bitter and charred elements in this one overpowered the lactose

My taste encountered three tastes, first a sweet stout flavor, then smoky and bitter, then rich and creamy.

St dbl milk stout ... Smoky, vanilla bean, charred brown bread in aroma. Nice creamy body, a bit thinner than I expected. Flavor has bittersweet chocolate subtle Smoke. Lactose sweetness is never overbearing, builds moderately in finish. A bit ungainly, but still quite tasty. 3.5.

Draught at lbaren, Copenhagen
Black color with creamy brownish head. Nice aroma, milk chocolate and cocoa. Very nice mouthfeel, round and smooth, with a good body strength; very pleasant chocolate flavor, with moderate residual sweetness, correct bitterness, with hidden hop qualities, some resins; long and balanced final.
Very drinkable, excellent result.

Bottle. Deep dark chocolate-brown with a thin dark tan head. Aroma is rich and sweet, with chocolate and cream, a hint of espresso, and some burnt caramel. Body isnt quite as big as the Dark Water beers, but is still substantial. Flavour is just a smidge too sweet, but still a good combo of chocolate, vanilla, coffee & cream, with nice notes of dark roasted coffee beans and slightly charred cocoa beans in the finish.

Ar: Light charcoal and some tart and herbal notes. Ap: Deep brown, opaque - small light tan head with medium-low retention, leaving a very thin ring with some hazy foam. T: Chocolate and char - dark malt bitterness, with some burnt coffee - medium-low sweetness, malt sharpness - bitterness is medium-low - finish is roast. P: Medium body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: Some interesting flavors, but it doesnt quite come together - too sharp, overall.

Pours a stark black, with faint glints of sunset red/orange. Head is nutty ivory, and short but lacey. Nose is of roasted malts, grainy oats, light coffee. Taste starts with smooth and earthy roasted malts, with light caramel, toffee, and smooth cream. Very little bitterness coming through, but nice earthy hops make a balanced appearance on the finish. Palate is smooth, and medium, very drinkable.

Poured from bottle, a dark brown color. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor was bitter, not sweet. Not a lot going on. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
