Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Sweet stout. Nice body. Enjoyed this Southern Tier offering. Recommend this for those who don’t like a boozy imperial stout, but also don’t like a watered down weak stout.

beerscout (298) - New Windsor, New York, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Bottle. Very deep dark brown color. Small brown head. Nose was thick in malts and sugar, roasted, nutty, and caramel. Flavors very roasted malts, caramel, toasted walnut, and sugar. Slight bitter finish.

Pours a khaki, three-finger head that fades quickly leaving traces of lace. Black color, no highlights. Strong carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Chocolate/coffee nose. Flavor is sweet chocolate and coffee, hops balance. Decent double stout. $2.00 for a 12oz bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2015 2015-04-18. Black body with a nice creamy head, I’m guessing a nitro pour. Aroma is mild, light roast character. 6+ Flavour is pleasant, light roast character throughout, moderate bitterness, hints at cocoa and green hops. Smooth bodied palate, soft carbonation. Enjoyable but just okay. 7/5/7/3-4/14 On tap at Allen Burger Venture, Buffalo.

2012-12-23. Black, modest brown head. 3+ Moderate aroma is sweet and malty, light roast and cocoa like notes, toasty malt. 7++ Flavour is fairly sweet overall, nice dark malty core, dry cocoa and roast in the finish provide enough bitterness to keep it from becoming cloying, mild sweet chocolate and light roast linger in the finish and aftertaste. 7++ Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate is softly carbonated. Fairly simple, but quite enjoyable. 7/4/7/4/16 Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo
