COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark, malty India Black Ale with a huge hop profile presenting itself through roasted malts. We brewed 2XIBA with epically dark muscovado sugar which imparts some color and residual sugar while helping the ale yeast achieve 8.0% abv. Fans of our Iniquity Imperial Black Ale will no doubt be reminded of the critically lauded beer in the fall seasonal 2XIBA. We reimagined a favorite retired beer, creating a perfect addition to our seasonal 2X series lineup. Autumn will be a little darker this year!

Bottle. Hazy blackish pour with tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, hops, yeast. Assertive hops in the flavor, dark malt, cacao, smooth and dense and complex finish.

The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a decent pace. Not much lace, somewhat messy. The aroma had a sweet sugary thickness up front over top of some roasted malts coming through slightly like ash, but not too dry with some sweet sticky grapefruit, light resin and a touch of spicy earthiness. The flavor was sweet in the beginning and developed a slight spicy contour to align the sweet with the spice somewhat nicely. Black licorice, somewhat. Aftertaste was mainly sweet with a touch of roast far underneath. Finish was sweet. The palate was medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Some hop abrasion, just enough to tell me that it’s a black IPA and finding it’s ability to try and be a palate wrecker, but not too much. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, Southern Tier pulled off an interesting and almost overly sweet black IPA but still maintained it’s call by staying within it’s style.

Draught @ Headkeeper: This one pours a dark brown color. There was a thin tan head that left lots of lacing. Good nose. Citrus and floral hops, chocolate malts and some roastiness. The taste is good. Chocolate and roasted malts. Citrus hops. Somewhat bitter. Nice!

It pours dark brown with a brown head and some lacing. It has citrus aromas, roast, floral, and chocolate. There are roast and chocolate flavors with citrus, floral hops. This produces a bittersweet combination overall. It has a medium feel to it with a bittersweet finish. Overall it is balance towards the hops side with a moderate roast and chocolate backbone to it.

Cybercat (6017) - Georgia, USA - MAY 3, 2016
Pours translucent cola brown with a thin and rather persistent tan head. Aroma is not strong, but promises dark fruit, woody hops and toasted malt. Flavor features woody but not particularly bitter hops, dark fruit and toasted malt, not spectacular but enjoyable. Mouthfeel delivers decent body, OK fizz, and a smoky woody hop finish. Get 2X-cited!

From 19 Mar 2016 -- Good malt backbone. The hops just aren’t enough for me. Meh.

Bottle. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Spicy pine, roast, cocoa, chocolate and caramel, a hint of orange. Medium bodied, big roast, a good amount of earthy pine and grapefruit bitterness. Slow roast into the finish, a bit more pine, warming alcohol, chocolate and lingering roast with some dusty cocoa.

Bottle. Pours black with a nice off-white head. Aroma of licorice and citrus peel. Taste is coffee, licorice, citrus peel, almost want to say Chinese five spice. Interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
