COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish.

355ml bottle, slight cloudy golden hue, with a white head, sweet honeyish, candyish lemon, grapefruit peel nose with some nice fruity, citrusy leafy, grassy floral hop accents, with a light resinous, pine note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good sweet juicy candied lemon, grapefruit peel, leafy, grassy flowery hop character, with a faint honeyed toasted, pale, caramel malt undertone, and with subtle spicy lemnograss note, leading towards a candyish, fruity, citrusy, zesty grapefruit, leafy, grassy lemony hop dry bitterness finish.

This double IPA has a soft spot in my heart, but doesnt effect the rating in so far as the beer alone is near what a double IPA should be. Drink this before tasting any other double IPA for benchmarking purposes.

A decent beer, but very ordinary. Aroma was nice at first. .A strong piney hop presence followed by a weird dusty smell. Pour was a nice, cloudy light gold with no bubbles and just a thin off white film for a head. Taste was alright. The hops are strong and resinous. Grapefruit and pine in the front and a very bitter and dry finish. The dustiness is faint, but still there. No malt to be found, which is not a bad thing. Slight alcohol warmth and good carbonation.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar,Stavanger. ABV is 8.2%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Nice aroma of citrussy American hops. Distinct flavour of citrussy and resinous American hops, fairly dry. Light bodied for its strength. Dangerously drinkable. Oh dear, was the bottle empty already?

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is malty, light hops. Taste is good malty, light hopped to be a double IPA.

Bottle. Sweet aroma with evidence of higher alcohol and hops. Hazy yellow with a moderate amount of visible carbonation and a thin, white head. Looks like a bud. If you could get a bud drinker to have his beer out of a glass it would be pretty humorous to get his reaction after switching it out for a 2XIPA. Sporadic, irregular lace. High alcohol profile is the first impression on the tongue. This is a brew you need to let warm a bit in order to open up the flavors. Nice flavor when it warms, alcohol subdues. Hops arent overly assertive. Moderately sweet. Pleasant. There are a lot better double IPAs out there but its solid.

Well made - deep golden yellow brew. Nicely balanced. Heavy body but not overly sweet. Some pine-spruce. Not super memorable, but very decent overall.

Koyo (251) - SWEDEN - OCT 9, 2011
Sample at Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival 2011. Very well balanced beer. Thick malt base that provides a lot of sweetness. The hops provide a lot of tropical fruit notes and a round bitterness that is present all the way from sip to swallow but never overpowers the impression of the rest of the beer. Solid DIPA!
