Bottle sample at a tasting at Max's place. Thanks Stas. Black. Big chocolate aroma, some roast, a bit of orange. Sweet flavor, chocolate, some roast, some orange, some alcohol. Quite full-bodied.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2018 Excellent from start to finish, like all the Choklat beers have been. A little orange curacao flavor, some healthy chocolate cake. Hats off to Southern Tier for continuing to grow and improve this series.

I’m Leary of beers paired with some kind of fruit; I.e. blueberry, raspberry, apricot but this beer is the shiznit, and rates up there for me with SBJ “Sweet Baby Jesus”!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

DATE: January 7, 2017... OCCASION: Watching the Golden Globes with Shan... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... pours a midnight black body, a half-finger brown head, and a balanced frame on which to gaze... thick chocolate a la a liquid tootsie roll, toffee, light lactic wafts, and just a touch of citrus--the orange is sneaky soft and belying its label... instantly warming at the throat, with a medium-bodied weight and a coffee-like texture--heady and sippable... lingering thickness that seems more suited for this season than the summer... the chocolate is solid, consistent, and chewy... the orange is secondary and unobtrusive... sweet toffee, roasted malts, and confectioner's sugar make this quite an after-dinner pleasure... powerfully cloaks its 10% ABV like a bourbon with its buttoned-down bitters... by glass's end, a sneaky-strong send-off to the evening... slightly less enjoyable than the previous Blackwater offerings, but this sits in good company as a worthy shelf mate...

Rich dark brown/black color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, rich chocolate, some coffee, & light orange rind; Flavor of roasted sweet malt, rich dark chocolate, mocha, coffee/espresso, hops, and some orange rind; Very nicely balanced; The orange is fairy light - but hard to improve on the original - still excellent.

Pours thick black with minimal head. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla and a hint of orange peel. Taste is immediately dark chocolate, warming to vanilla with a hint of orange. Finish is smooth chocolate. A really good dessert stout.

bottle - Pours black with a minimal tan head. It has a rich, chocolate and malt aroma. The flavor is sweet with roast malt, loads of chocolate, and as it warms the orange comes through more and more. It's full bodied and definitely qualifies as dessert. Excellent. I really enjoyed this one.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2017 ABV - 10.0 .Appearance: Opaque black, creamy tan head. Slight carbonation visible. Great looking beer. .Aroma: Powerful scent, you can smell this beer the second it's poured into the glass. Fudge, sweet milk chocolate, orange liquor, sugar coated orange. Orange zest. Very specifically - those old fashioned hard fruit candy sticks that are covered in chocolate. Smells awesome. .Taste: Very similar to the aroma. Orange liquor with sweet milk chocolate. Slight roasted malt. Subtle bitterness on the finish. Slight booziness, in a very warming and enhancing way. .Mouthfeel: Medium to full body, nice carbonation. Very smooth, easy drinking. .Overall: A- .Bottom Line: Great Aroma, very pronounced flavors. Not overly complex, but quite enjoyable. Excellent dessert beer.

Bottle. Pours an inky black with a bubbly ring, no head. Rich, sweet aroma, of chocolate, sugar, a hint of toasted malt and orange. Taste is big and rich, lots of sweet chocolate and orange up front, with vanilla and sugar, then picks up more toasted malt and bittersweet chocolate at the end, with some boozy orange liquor notes. Lingering chocolate-orange maltiness. Delicious dessert beer.
