a stout of great contention We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; its all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crme Brle, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv 25 plato 195 L 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

UPDATED: APR 29, 2014 22 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a very dark brown color with a one-finger khaki shaded head. It certainly looks like a stout, thats for sure. S: HOLY SHIZNIT. The level of vanilla, caramel, and cream I pick up on the nose is absolutely ridiculous. Of course, the sugar level is probably ridiculous, but I dont care. The aroma is amazing. T: The flavors, however, arent quite amazing. Having said that, this is probably the most caramel-forward brew Ive ever had. Seriously, theres so much caramel and vanilla, its fuckin ridiculous. No balance between the sweet and bitter qualities at all. But honestly? I kind of like it, even if the sweetness burns the palate. M: Id really like the feel to be fuller/creamier to properly support all of the over-the-top sweetness. Because of that, this is *VERY* hard to drink. The low carbonation doesnt help it feel less cloying, either. O: SAH-FUCKING-WEET. Sure, its actual flavor is nice, but this is so hard to imbibe its not even funny. Share this with about 4-6 people and youll thank me later.

Incredibly sweet, with no detection of hops or bitter after bite (definitely not a beer you want to mix with something savory). Aroma/Taste: vanilla, burnt caramel and sour milk. A definite try for dessert beer lovers.

Bomber pours a black coffee color with a one finger dark brown head and medium lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel medicine. Taste is not quite what I expected, very medicinal, some banana, light vanilla, very syrupy. Bitterness is a mild medium. The aftertaste is the best part of this one. Definitely tastes better as it sits and the temperature increases.

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (base style: 16A Sweet Stout)

AROMA: As the name indicates, the aroma is of Crme Brle (vanilla custard). There is some dark malt sweetness, iced coffee, and minor alcohol presence as well. Simple but enticing nose. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Opaque ink black. Moderate tan foam retains and laces fairly well. 2/3

FLAVOR: Vanilla dominates the palette from beginning to end. Slight vanilla extract-like taste at first with a strong caramelized custard flavor on the finish. The dark malt is there mostly for backbone and does not create for much distinctive character. Bitterness doesnt really emerge until the finish as does the alcohol. Strange combination of bourbon-like vanilla booziness and dry bitterness on the finish with a cough medicine-like aftertaste. The palette is delectable in small doses only. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with fairly low CO2 to give it a viscous, creamy texture. The 10% ABV warmth is gentle, but difficult to ignore. A challenge to drink more than a sip at a time. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely delivers on its name, but goes a little overboard on the sweetness. A borderline novelty brew. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 34/50

Totalne zaskoczenie. Aromat cudownie waniliowy i śmietankowy, intensywny i zachęcający. Smak słodki, pełno wanilii, laktozy, czekolady, toffee. Zajebiste, płynny deser!

Keg Half Pint at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London in Dec 2011 - Very Dark Brown (almost Black) in colour. Very very sweet and rich stout. Very aromatic; incredibly it does smell and taste like crme brulee. Very Malty; roasty malts, lots and lots of vanilla, toffee, toasted/burnt sugar, chocolate, lactose. Hoppy; spicy floral hops. Unique taste. Stunning dessert beer! Really this is an Imperial Milk Stout or an Imperial Sweet Stout if there was such a style. Lovely Impy Stout! (2011-12-01)

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a moderate tan head. Aroma is largely vanilla with some toffee, caramel, and sugar. Taste is vanilla, toffee, caramel, and cream. Lightly bitter roast finish with some lingering caramel sweetness. Medium body. Barely any carbonation. Mouthfeel is a little light for an imperial stout but it is pleasantly coating; smooth and sticky.
