22oz bottle poured into glass. Pitch black color with a tannish orange head which dissipated to the edge of the glass. Aroma of caramel malts with a hint of chocolate or molasses. Fairly sweet in flavor which is surprising for a beer this dark, oaty aftertaste. Very rich and full on the palate. Little rough on the palate when compared side by side with Stone Russian Imperial Stout. Overall a really good sipping beer from Southern Tier.
Smells like creme. A bit sweet. Decent though. Would drink again. A little thin. BlindGuardianco (89) - - NOV 26, 2015

2/19/2009 7:23:26 AM In Northfield, MA. Dark brown body with oak head. Sweet and malty nose. Taste of caramel, chocolate and oats. Hoppy as well. Nice and toasty. Very good. DavoleBomb (1867) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 3, 2015
Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Black color. One finger of light brown frothy/creamy head. Retention is lacking and just a wisp or two of lacing are left.
4.0 S: Roasted malts and chocolate up front. Oats are powerful in this and add their trademark oat aroma. Complex layers of caramel and molasses. Fairly simple, but very nice.
4.0 T: Taste is just as good. Roasted malts, semisweet chocolate, and oats are the strongest with nearly as much caramel and molasses.
4.25 M: Heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Pleasantly creamy and super smooth.
4.0 D: Very tasty beer. Good for a Friday night.

Bottle from cellar that’s been aging over three years. Sweet aroma. Is there a bit of fruit? Cedar, oat and nut, chocolate, barley, roasted malts. Diverse character. Flavor is leaning heavily towards sweet then roasted then bitter then sweet again. Interesting. Very good though and alcohol is very well disguised. Smooth and creamy. Medium body.

650ml bottle. Black color with beige brown head. Roasted malty aroma, chocolate, some coffee, caramel, light bready, vanilla. Sweet and bitter taste. Full silky creamy body with soft carbonation. italarican (1546) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 1, 2015
2.5 year old bomber split with Jenny while we watched those episodes of Castle where they resolve the 3XK saga. Oily, moderately thick black pour, medium off white head. Aroma is subtly earthy but massively sweet dark chocolate with burnt nuts. Flavor is surprisingly ashy to start, moving on to sweet n’ luscious dark chocolate syrup, and finishing with toast and roasted nuts. Oily and velvety body, even if not thick. Roasted nuts and earthy chocolate lingers for miles. Quite nice! Travlr (24308) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUN 16, 2015

Bottle, 2012 vintage. Pours opaque black, medium brown head, dissipates fairly quickly, good lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasty, molasses. Flavor is fully sweet, medium bitter, lots of molasses and some anise. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Pretty solid.
