We spent over a year prototyping R&D versions of Nu Skool. This final version is one special beer. It is an IPA with a slight malty sweetness, but overall balanced & brimming with tropical, fruity, spicy, piney & citrus character. To contrast our IPA, which most closely resembles a traditional English IPA in malt & hop bills, we wanted to brew an India Pale Ale in a new way. West Coast brewers have been brewing lighter, more "Americanized" yet still full of hop character & our brewers wanted to try their hand by brewing their take. HOP PROCESS: We used 3.5 lbs. of "new school" varieties of hops per barrel of beer. We load our hopback to the brim with Mosaic hops for a big tropical fruit character. A nice whirlpool dose of experimental hop #07270 gives the beer a flavorful, resinous character. We then dry hop this beer on two separate days with a large amount of Mosaic hops in our hop cannon & Simcoe + Equinox two days later.

DATE: June 1, 2017... OCCASION: Prepping for Game One with a beer that promises something old and something new--the Cavs embody this concept... GLASSWARE: La Fin du Monde tulip... pours a crystal-clear golden body with a flurry of oversized bubbles that build a three-finger clump of snow-white head, craggy with giant bubbles clinging to the glass... the first whiff of India escaped the can the second I cracked it; the second immediately upon pouring it... robust resin, knotty pine, toasted malts, light orange/lemon citrus, and light pepper make for quite a prolific expectation... first sip is vibrant as the effervescence portended, with an escaping tooth-rattle and a slippery malt finish... although a West Coast attempt is the aim, this still holds some East Coast bias as well...dry and light-bodied, belying its 6.0% ABV... thick clusters of bubbles linger as the glass drains... as promised, Mosaic and Simcoe burst with resin and pine, with tropical flavors of mango, grapefruit, orange peel and lemon--the full array in balance, while enough bread malts keep the beer from being a hop bomb... each sip simmers with a pleasantly light buzz... if this is how the Cavs play the series, I like their chances... as the fifth beer rated from the Overpackd case, this is up there with 2XSmash...

Bottle->SA. Brite clear gold with moderate white head. A: citrus and floral hops, grass, fern, mild citrus peel, caramel hops. T: citrus hops, watery, with some mild pine, forest, rhododendron. Mild caramel malt. Thin, touch too bitter for the body. Eh.

Incredible, one of the better IPA's i've had, hence the score. Aromatic , great odor, delicious crisp taste. Growler from Hopsy.

Hop hop hop away. Good tasting, more than welcomed aroma. Enjoyable on a nice chill night; or when getting a buzz lightyear. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Hazy light amber color, , white head that drops to a frothy cover, lace bands. Typical IPA with light malt, combination citrus/pine hops on the swallow, then malt slowly returning in a long finish.

Tap @ BOT. Clear golden coloured. Citric, grapefruits, bit of caramel.. Classic ipa.

Very nice IPA in a 12oz canned variety pack. The beer poured a light golden color with a fluffy, white head. The head left some sticky lacing around the glass. The nose, as well as the flavors, were very woody and spicy. The finish left a bit of spiky, hop-resin-like flavor with notes of pine and grapefruit.

12oz bottle from Wegman's, West Seneca. A slightly hazy amber pour with a thin white head; fresh tropical fruit aroma; sweet fruity taste that fills the mouth with pineapple and mango and has a nicely offset bitterness; followed by a sweet fruity malt finish. Rather good.

Very bright spicy tropical aroma. Soft juiciness and a bit of light pepper and some nice fruitiness with a bit of zest and some grapefruit and kiwi. There's almost a noble quality on the back. Has a bit of stone fruit and some light grassiness. Really bright, pleasant beer.
