With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

On tap at the River Room. Clear dark copper body with small foamy head. Subtle malty aroma, gets bitter in taste, finishes bitter as well. Bitterness is a combo of roast grains and hops. Good rendition.

Bottle poured into a frozen mug. Great color. Taste is a great balance of hops and malt. Thin head. A hint of spice and great aroma. Reminds me of pine nuts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle. Pours copper with a thick bubbly beige head. Subtle toasted malt nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor. Complex and rich with a big malt and hops that balance nicely. Best as a slow sipper. Evident alcohol as the brew warms. Big spicy bitter hop finish. Delicious.

This is a perfect example of an old ale. Everything about it is delicious, and I love to keep a 6 pack around for 4th of July.

Pours copper-amber with a one finger tan head with decent lacing. aroma is of caramel, sweet malts, toffee, light floral hops, light spicy hops, light pine, dark fruits, and light herbal notes. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, cold weather sipper.

Dark copper. Smells like cardboard. Oxidized, but in a really good way. Caramel abounds. Thx GreatDane1632.

12 fl oz Flasche. Klar und bernsteinfarben. Minimale Schaumkrone. Starkes Hopfenaroma. Erst sehr herb, dann trockener Nachgeschmack.

Smell and taste is lightly malty, caramel and a bit fruity. Okay bitterness in the aftertaste that fills the upper part of the mouth to a weak moment. Okay beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Appearance is medium white head with amber color. Aroma is sweet malts. Taste is mostly spice and hops. Overall a decent but not great winter ale.
