COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With the onset of winter, the brewer’s mind turns to providing warmth. For our winter seasonal, Southern Tier offers Old Man Winter Ale, a rich and complex amalgam of hops and barley that will put the feeling back in your toes and lift your spirits above the snow. Old Man Winter throws a deep and inviting hue with a thickness that clings to the glass and the warmth of an open flame. Because of its high alcohol content, Old Man Winter is a heady brew that encourages sipping and pondering its essential richness. Drink it fresh now, or cellar some bottles to see how this old man becomes wiser with age.

Pours a clear brown with a touch of amber and some cream colored head. Aroma is a little sweet with malt and raisin evident. Smells a little like a watered down Dogfish Head Raisin D’ Etre. Taste follows the aroma with some nice bitterness mixed in. Body is medium with some chewiness. I really like this compared to many other Winter Ales because it isn’t dominated by spices.

Overall very pleasant to drink nice to have on a cold day.

Drank from a pint glass, poured from a large bottle. Pours a nice dark coppery color with nice fluffy head. Great aromas from the malt bill on this guy, not overpowering on the spice aroma. This beer is nice and smooth, but has a nice complex kick to it! Cheers!

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a white head. Aroma is malty, dark fruits. Taste is not very pleasant: caramel malt and some hoppy bitterness. Roasted malt afteraste. Probably spoiled.

12oz bottle - Poured a medium brown with a white head...thinned quickly. I got a whiff of caramel, toasted nuts, and something earthy. First sip was a mixture of skunky water and malt. But it got better with detection of some spice and biscuit with a dark malt...then a bitter herb finish.

Some roasted malt and a touch of dark chocolate fades to a slight Carmel sweetness, then a hop backbone comes in. A more crisp winter ale and some decent hop flavor without huge IBUs. Dry finish, and hops linger - slight citrus and bitterness. Very nice change from honey and spice that you usually fine in this season. Low carbonation for this medium body, almost chewy brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Musty oak, burnt caramel, spicy. Malty beer with mild hop presence. Dark caramel color with a thin head. Nice weight and heft. Good winter brew. Complex.
