When Phin and Matt sat down to collaborate on their new beer, they knew it had to be different if they were to call it extraordinary. "Let sprinkle it with fairy dust and wave our magic wands," said Phin. "No way," said Matt, "We’ve got to do better than that. This beer has to be better than any other in the galaxy." "Let’s do some market research." So the two strapped on their rocket pack packs and traveled to the intergalactic beer store. After sampling an array of beers from acrossed the galaxy, the duo hit on an idea. "I’ve got it" exclaimed Matt, "we’ll use vast amounts of whole hops, the finest malt, and put a little more love in every batch." "Eureka!" shouted Phin. And thus became a beer so fresh and tasty the duo put their names on it. 37 IBU’s, 5.6% ABV

Mild fruity aroma. Cherrywood and apple skins. Good hoppy character but smooth and mellow. Also some light buttery notes. Brilliant amber clear with thin head that dissipates quickly. Light medium body with medium soft carbonation. Has a medium sweet taste. Hoppy oils and mildly overbearing sugary quality. Nice hops throughout, just a bit dull. Finish is mild cherry skin bitter with touch of neutral fruits. After is a dry bitter.

Love the nice full hops bouquet and citrus (lemon maybe) aroma. Dark yellow - orange. White head. Some malt in the palate and some hops in the finish. Starts good finishes drably.

Clear and the color of honey. The mild aroma of hops mixes well with an even milder aroma of malts. The hops are pretty soft spoken but very nice as they are not overwhelming. This would be a good beer to have around.Funny how raters see things differently.

This is a great pale ale. I had it on tap in my kegerator for 2 months. It pours a nice yellow-corn color. The head is nice and stable. The smell is of wonderful floral hops. The taste is balanced, but heavy on the floral/citrus hop side. Excellent session beer.

I’m liking Southern Tier more and more with each new beer I try. This stuff poured gold from the 12 oz bottle with a thick head and lot’s of lacing. Aroma is hoppy pine and sweet malt. Tastee is very well balanced, nice and hoppy. A really good beer.

Pours a clear bronze with a thin, but nicely-lacing white head. Aroma has a nice hoppy presence and a touch of sweet caramel malt. Body starts semi-sweet with some nice fresh hoppy assertiveness, but fades toward dullness in the finish. A crisp, drinkable beer, but sort of a let down after the aroma and first sip. Thanks to slob for the bottle.

Pours a light clear yellow color with a small amount of fizzy white head. Not much in the way of aroma...a little sweet, a little hoppy, but not much of either. Flavor is quite bland too. Malty with a sprig of hops. Overall, a very very average beer.

Boooooring. If you want to drink a whole lot of beer and won’t drink budweiser, get this. It’s plain and inoffensive. Definitely drinkable, in that I finished the 6 pack with no complaints, but I barely noticed. Utterly average American pale ale.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2011 Bottle: Hazy orange with a thin white head, huge grapefruit/orange aroma, starts and ends bitter, full bodied with an orange aftertaste. Smells more like an IPA than a pale ale, but who am I to complain.
