Plums are a diverse group of species, with somewhere between 19 & 40 varieties depending upon whom you ask. We’re using what we consider to be the best to brew with. the Italian plum has beautiful dark skin & the flesh is perfect for fermentation. Plum Noir’s mild sweetness is derived no necessarily from the many malts we use. A bit of plum flavor is present as well as earthy, toasted grains, & hints of caramel with mild coffee overtones.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out loads of plums, chalk, and coal. Flavour brings out lots of chalk and coal, very subtle plum notes and toasted bready notes. Way too chalky and coal-like, with a sludgy body. This is way off - not sure what they were going for here, but it didn’t work. Not enjoyable.

A black beer with subtle ruby hues. A minimal cream head popping on the nose with chocolate notes. While the beer label talks of plum it is very subtle, hopefully the one I age will come out more. What you do find is a lot of coco, very similar to their choklat. The base malts must be the same but there is added sophistication. A really nice cold winter night drink.

On tap at Biercab. Black-reddish colour with tan head. Fruity, plums, roasted and chocolate aroma. Fruity tase, with some chocolate and toastiness, slightly bitter. Fruity aftertaste. Medium to full body.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2013 Aroma of plums, wine and malt. After that I found the beer ordinary. Thin mouthfeel, bland taste. I’ve had better. Southern tier continues to disappoint.

It poured a black color with a light tan head. The aroma was very light and had some sweet plums, chocolate and roasted malts. The taste was sweet smooth chocolate with a light dark fruit note and a little bitter with a smooth finish. Nice.

Coffee straight up with a hint of plum at the end. General fruitiness is more of an afterthought than the main thing.

Bottle at Örebro Öl&Whiskey Festival 2013. Dark mahogany/brown beer with a decent beige head. Roasted chocolate and cocoa aroma, plums, raisins, vinous notes, caramel, citrus, tar notes some dades. Roasted chocolate flavor, dades, caramel, tar, cocoa powder, some alcohol. Decent beer but I have had better dark beers from this brewery.

Deep mahogany with a thin brown crown that reigns over its beer for a long, long time. Aroma is upfront plum and chocolate with dark roasted malts, dark fruits and light caramel. Taste of dark roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and alcohol with a peppery and zippy finish.

wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - NOV 24, 2013
Tasted on 11/24/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle. Pours opaque dark brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is pretty straight-forward dark chocolate and coffee porter with a very light fruity, almost vinous note. The flavor follows suit with standard porter characteristics dominating and just a light hint of fruit on the back end. The body is medium to full with average carbonation and a long dark coffee and dark chocolate finish with just a tinge of fruit.
