Plums are a diverse group of species, with somewhere between 19 & 40 varieties depending upon whom you ask. Were using what we consider to be the best to brew with. the Italian plum has beautiful dark skin & the flesh is perfect for fermentation. Plum Noirs mild sweetness is derived no necessarily from the many malts we use. A bit of plum flavor is present as well as earthy, toasted grains, & hints of caramel with mild coffee overtones.

I thought I was done picking up random bombers from Southern Tier. This one hid itself well in the cellar so during a purge I give it a chance. I should have left it on the shelf when I had the chance - its not terrible but it suffers from the same weaknesses as many higher gravity Southern Tier offerings. Save your money for other beers at the local store.

Aroma / Appearance - A deep reddish black base sits under yellowish white head. Boozy sweet grape juice smells like someone left a bottle of Welchs outside to naturally ferment. The sweetness masks anything else that might be happening underneath.

Flavor / Palate - Plums, light chocolate, and malt open with a promising start. Things then begin to go downhill as the sugary booze clings to the throat. The flat finish leaves an unremarkable aftertaste that is the hallmark of most over the top Southen Tier special releases. If not for being the best option in its corner of the state I would never buy Southern Tier again.

22oz bottle pours out maroon brown topped with a small tan head. Nose is big plum pit fruit sweetness upfront then some chocolate and spice..taste is more of the heavy plum chocolate sweetness and a nice malt.

Bomber shared. Dark pour, minimal head. Dark plum aroma. Taste is more bitter chocolate than anything. Not balanced at all. This was a miss for me.

On tap at Hopjacks. Pours a cloudy brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is dark fruit, plum, chocolate, grain. Thin mouth, strong caramel, plum skin, toasted malt, hides alcohol well, very good.

Cerveza mezclada con ciruelas. Color de chocolate, casi negra. Apenas un dedo de espuma beige. Aroma moderadamente frutal, notndose ms chocolate y malta tostada.

Bottled 05.02.13. Poured from a bomber into a chalice on 02.20.15. A: Cocoa, powdery chalk, and prunes. A: 1 finger light tan head that recedes to spots of fluff. T: Woodiness and dark berry dominate. P: Very thin and watery even for a porter. O: This was underwhelming. There was no flavor here. Maybe it was too old, but it should have held up at 8.0% ABV. It wasnt undrinkable, but it wasnt worth drinking.
