COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hearty malts meld with a subtle balance of hops to create a dark and nurturing ale of comfort and complexity. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and espresso fill the tongue, finishing with just a touch of smoke. Not too sweet or filling, this versatile dark ale dissuades the notion that a darker beer is a stronger beer. Five varieties of roasted malts are the source of Porter’s dark color and rich taste, while two varieties of hops bring a mellow bite to this deep toasty ale.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Particularly tasty with slow-cooked meats, grilled cheese, smoked sausage. Pairs well with chocolate desserts, pumpkin pie, cheesecake.
AVAILABILITY: Year-round / 12oz (6pk and 24 bottle cases) / 1/2 keg, 1/6 keg

Beer has a very dark amber color with an off white frothy head.First Drink is overwhelming with rasberry and chocolate flavors. After first taste beer evens out and has a good flavor. Beer leaves a bitter after taste. Over all the beer was pretty good and i would drink it again.

On tap at a Bob Seger concert at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., so obviously in a plastic cup. Pours black-brown with creamy tan head and lacing. Aroma: faint coffee, chocolate. Flavor: the above, ramped up, along with ash, molasses, nuts. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, creamy, savory.

On tap at brewpub. No nose at all, very odd. Dark brown, slight tan head. Burnt malt taste, weak sweetness underneath. Average carbonation. Solid porter, not spectacular.

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Cincinnati OH --- Aroma of musty toasted malt. Near black color, deep tan head, hanging strands of lace. Taste is lightly toasted malt that moves through light fizz to a quick sharp dip to bittering, followed by a gradual return to bittersweet malt in a long finish. Interesting, light, as a porter should be, easy-drinking.

Black as the night with a frothy tan head (that gives in a bit to fast). Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and smooth carbonation level. Ok sweetness with a fine bitterness to back it up. A bit oily texture. Cold coffee, chocolate, toffee, roast and bready flavor. Ok complexity..

Let it warm up and poured the bottle into a 16 oz.Belgian ale glass. The foam filled the glass to the brim and then dissipated to a creamy film atop the deep brown brew. Malty cocoa aroma. The flavor was disappointing, roasty, milky and pretty mild, a bit burnt and bitter at the end, but in general underwhelming. Thin bodied and mildly carbonated... nothing to really dislike here, but not much to please either.

Translucent cola brown color. Large frothy tan head. Mild roasted malt nose is somewhat subdued. Soft, roasted malt flavor has notes of chocolate and toasted nuts. Caramel and coffee in mid taste. Subtle spicy hops in finish. Tasty.

Southern Tier has been brewing some good beer. Love their IPA sampler. This beer is quite tasty as well. Just enough chocolate malt to balance the sweetness. Hops is in the background. Very tasty.

Not as malty as some porters, smooth and robust. Deep, dark brown. March madness 2017

retinadoc (240) - - DEC 27, 2016
Bottle. Anemic flavor and aroma compared to the current crop of potent Imperial Stouts and truly "robust" porters. Medium carbonation. Innocuous, but rather bland. Distant coffee and malt flavors. Smooth. Very slightly sweet. Slightly bitter finish. The kindest praise for this beer is that it has no off-flavors, but overall it is a lukewarm taste experience. Disappointing.
