Hearty malts meld with a subtle balance of hops to create a dark and nurturing ale of comfort and complexity. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and espresso fill the tongue, finishing with just a touch of smoke. Not too sweet or filling, this versatile dark ale dissuades the notion that a darker beer is a stronger beer. Five varieties of roasted malts are the source of Porters dark color and rich taste, while two varieties of hops bring a mellow bite to this deep toasty ale.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Particularly tasty with slow-cooked meats, grilled cheese, smoked sausage. Pairs well with chocolate desserts, pumpkin pie, cheesecake.

This porter poured a deep black colour with a tan coloured, foamy head. Small amount of lacing. To the nose there are scents of coffee, ripe fruit, smoke and dark cocoa. First sip was flavourful with tastes of coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate and toast. Finish is lightly smokey with the real roast lingering forever.

Southern Tier has been brewing some good beer. Love their IPA sampler. This beer is quite tasty as well. Just enough chocolate malt to balance the sweetness. Hops is in the background. Very tasty.

Not as malty as some porters, smooth and robust. Deep, dark brown. March madness 2017

Bottle. Anemic flavor and aroma compared to the current crop of potent Imperial Stouts and truly "robust" porters. Medium carbonation. Innocuous, but rather bland. Distant coffee and malt flavors. Smooth. Very slightly sweet. Slightly bitter finish. The kindest praise for this beer is that it has no off-flavors, but overall it is a lukewarm taste experience. Disappointing.

Flight #3 at the brewery with ebone1988. The pour is a darker brown with a lot of light ruby shining through. There is a thin ring of light khaki head and a lot of soapy lace. The aroma is very milky and sweet right up front. The maltiness and strong roast come in on the back end. Chocolate and bitter roast finish it out. Its not terrible. The flavor is milky and sweet. There is a light roast and a lightly bitter finish. Its watery and flavorless in the middle. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a lack carbonation and a dry thin finish. The aftertaste is thin and roasty with a sweet lactose there as well. This is not a great porter

Sweeter than expected with a little less roast. Cramel, toffee, chocolate coffee nose and flavor. Body is medium. Smooth, easy drinker.

Pours a dark brown from a bottle. Toasty, coffee and chocolate aroma and flavor. Rather sweet. I feel like a lot of porters have lots of effervescence in the mouth that reminds me of soda, not sure why, but this one has it too. Okay beer.

DATE: March 29, 2016... OCCASION: watching Gone Girl with Shan on a Spring Break Tuesday... GLASSWARE: Kisatskys Tavern pint... APPEARANCE: midnight black, cola-clinging bubbles adorn the glass... off-white head forms at a staunch, quarter-inch... coral fingers stretch as the glass drains... AROMA: malty, chocolaty suggestions early, with toasted cereal grains... not much hops to speak of, but not the point of th porter... PALATE: creamy, with a coffeeish body that adds texture at the throat... lactic milk smoothness .pervades the experience...TASTE: peat, coffee, some vegetable, and lactic suggestions... a strong, smoky flavor lingers at its end... OVERALL: not as memorable as the majority of the Southern Tier offerings, but this is sufficient for what is needed from a porter...
