500ml bottle in a hotel in Liverpool as ’Southport Old Shrimper Strong Ale’, 5.5%. Big gush. Pretty much black with a big creamy dense head. Aroma is ash, chocolate, some dense plum, baked apple. Body is light, tingly carbonation, a bit foamy. Taste is light and tangy, thin malts, some booze showing up, apple. A bit thin and tangy. Wasn’t that fussed on this one. peter48er (185) - Liverpool, Merseyside, ENGLAND - DEC 15, 2013
Bottle conditioned from Inn Beer Shop Southport. Quite lively on pour with small white head which dissipated reasonable quickly but laced the glass throughout. Dark winter beer with a lovely malt, fruit and cloves taste. A really satisfying winter warmer, from a small, quality brewer. Difficult to source but worth seeking out. Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival, 17th & 18th February 2012 Dark brown with a few stray bubbles, smooth and with a fruitiness, there is a light tanginess and decent bitterness. I overlooked this beer a little over the weekend however it was quite decent. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4 imdownthepub (14552) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 19, 2012
Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Fest ’12. Black with cream head. Dry and bitter dark beer, heavy with dark roasted malts, biscuity and a fruity, sloe type flavour. Rich and deep and pretty enjoyable. FatPhil (16102) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 27, 2012

Roasty cakey aroma, just what I want in a winter warmer. In the mouth it’s a bit yeasty, even a bit marmitey, and a little muddled. Still smooth and sweetish. The yeasty hump detracted a bit, but once you’re over that, it’s an OK beer. Shame, as the aroma sold it really well.
utterly the best winter ale i have ever had the priviledge of trying- liqourice- dark malts- perfect mouthfeel superb by the fourth week in the cask. this beer has been totally overlooked by the winter ales festival in manchester! johndoughty (5446) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 24, 2010
Bottle. Dark brown with a small head.Low carbonation with a nutty malty flavour. Warming with plenty of body for its strength. Creamy and stout like. Nice.

Dark coloured and strong in alcohol with a fruity bubble gum flavour. A hint of dryness and bitterness in a lasting malt finish.
