A Festive Brew brewed as a collaboration between Southstar and Kereru Brewing and the Kereru Brewery. An old ale brewed with Chestnuts in the mash and cranberries and currants in the boil.
From the FYO at Regional. Pours very very dark, almost black, with a tan head rising above. There’s roasted nuts - chestnuts, not peanut - rising on the nose, with a rich sweetness of malt and subtle fruit. In the mouth it’s superbly balanced; soft sweetness followed by a nutty round bitterness. It does what it says on the label - a lovely mix of solid earthy nut and subtle, dry red berries. Very very nice. I missed this at Beervana, and glad I got a second chance at it.
