COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in the style of the old London Imperial Russian stout to a recipe perfected over 40 years ago, the roast coffee and almost port-like characters make it an excellent nightcap and winter warmer. Voted Champion Stout at the 2001 Australian International Beer awards having previously been Grand Champion Beer in 1988 and 1991.

...bottle. I was surprised with this beer. Nice tan head, with lacing that lasts. Hard roasted malt notes, low bitterness, and a dry dark fruit\coffee finish. I just picked this up to try a new brew, and it was worth it. True to the style, not too heavy, and masks the alcohol well. Decent stout.

Thick brown bubbly head on a dark stout,good carbonation.Aroma chocolate,very nice note,caramel,malty aroma,milk,vanilla note.Flavour superb caramel and chocolate malt tastes lovely,mild bitter roasted tastes,yeasty,great on the palate,moccha like flavour.This is the flavour I,ve been looking for in a stout of this type,one sip after another,great stuff.Finish cream malt tasting chocolate,bitter tang on the buds,a stout to really enjoy.

Opaque black colour with a fairly large tan head. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Roasted malts, coffee flavours. Moderate bitterness in the long finish. - 375ml bottle.

Opaque black with a dark tan head. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Rich dark roast malts with a bit of molasses, smoke, coffee and black chocolate and with a long lasting moderately bitter finish. A great stout!

Pours a deep brown with lingering beige head. Roasted malts and coffee dominate with a slight nose of chocolate and licorice also coming through. Light roasted flavour of malts and chocolate with a roasted bitter finish. A fine stout.

Bottle (750ml). You have to love this stuff at, 7.4%, $4.50 - $5.00 per 750ml and jam packed with stouty flavors, it is the best beer to buy in Australia money for value wise. Poured black with a dark brown, dense frothy head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of roasted malts, dark chocolate, molasses, some dates, coffee and some licorice in the back. Flavor was of roasted malts, licorice, molasses, some coffee and nuts and a smoky, mildly warming finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation, with a syrupy texture, creamy mouthfeel and a long finish.

From bottle, no 16 at Papsoes blindtasting. Pours dark brown with lacing light brown head. Aroma is chocolate malty and with a note of whiskey. Dark and roasted malt with a slight liqourice edge and some chocolate smoothness following. Ends with a chocolate smoothness into the finish. Nice and smooth.

#16 [Blind tasting session @ Papsoe 30-11-2007] Average creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good lacework. Dark mahogany color. Dried fruit, toasted malt. Over the palate heavy notes of coffee, bitter chocolate and liquorish. Hint of tar. Medium to full bodied with a light dry texture and a lively carbonation. Moderated mix of bitter and sweet flavor. Dry bitter English liquorish that lingers in the mouth and covers it.

Black color; creamy head. Mild aroma, with some roasted malt and dark chocolate. Milky roasted malt flavor, but the sourness from the roasted malt is disturbing. Wrong.
