Pours dark and opaque with a slight red tinge. Solid tan head that retains well, eventually fading to nice lacing. Surprisingly sweet aromas of toffee and caramel balanced well with huge roasted malt character. Some bitter cocoa also. Flavour has a large charred malt character, espresso, cocoa with a little of.the toffee sweetness carrying through. Earthy and floral hop character. Lots of coffee some caramel smell. It's black, very black... holding it in front of a 21" monitor you can't see though it at all. Tastes like it smells with a bit of alcohol thown in. Bottle -- Medium but dense tan head with not a lot of retention or lacing. An almost impenetrable black. Rich and delicious aroma of roasted malt, coffee and caramel. Very strong, but almost harsh, burnt flavour with quite a lot of bitterness. The flavour becomes more complex as it gets warmer. Nice full palate, although perhaps some unexpected wateriness. Very bitter and tastes like coffee (both of which are good qualities). However it is much harder drinking than a stout like Coopers which is still better in my opinion. Good value though.

Draft at The New Sydney, Hobart. A strong, dark and very rich stout. Big chocolate and roasted malt flavours with a really nice tang to it. Fair coffee hit thrown in there to boot, quite viscous with a terrific mouthfeel. All in all a fantastic stout. Anglofile (138) - Piti, GUAM - OCT 25, 2006
750 ml bottle. Pours black with a creamy disappearing head. Aroma was rich with molasses and caramel. Tastes the same but with less flavor as you’d expect and more bite. Burnt toffee flavour with strong slate/steel palate tempered with syrupy chocolate and mollasses. Strong vine characteristics of marsala and port. Sharp bitter finish softens with cellering. Much maligned by many a yokel, this is a mule and it kicks. Delicious with vanilla ice-cream and cold stormy nights. Sooo-eee..
