Color covers. White foam, creamy and persistent. An aromatic and bitter beer created by British brewers to withstand the trip to India, which would quench the thirst of the troops of His Majesty. A piece of history in the bottle!

Bottle from andrepintado, many thanks. Hazy dark orange color with huge off-white head. Tropical fruity hops, bready malt in aroma. Solid malty backbone followed by tropical fruity, spicy hops, with light fruity tartness in background. Resiny hoppy finish. Easy drinkable, enjoyable beer.

courtesy of André Gonçalves - hazy amber-brown beer with a little foam left; earthy and light vegetable-like aroma, notes of almonds; overcarbonated, some candied sweetness, earthy and astringent; some bitterness, light notes of ripe fruits and more earthy notes in the finish - not convincing

In short: An IPA attempt that is total mess with a strange array of flavors.
How: Bottle at Taberna Da Rua Das Flores, Lisbon Portugal.
The look: Clear dark amber body topped by a little beige ring of foam.
In long: Nose is floral, perfumy, aromatic tea, overall strange aroma that is hard to describe. Body has an oily texture and it is lacking carbonation, the mouthfeel was totally lifeless. Taste is old rotting tea, some kind of low sweetness table syrup, a weird sensation of artificial flower flavors, cooked apples, other weird stuff. What a mess this beer was. And that’s pretty much when I decided to drink only wine for the remainder of my stay in Portugal. Beers are so bad in Portugal that I went shopping three times to the same beer store before I realized it was actually a hardware store and I was drinking industrial lubricant.

Bottle @ home. Appearance: pours unclear amber/brown with powerful off-white head with good lacing. Aroma/taste: grain, caramel, citrus and floral/herbal notes. Palate: high carbonation, medium body, distinct bitterness, nice dry finish, medium duration, and am watery texture. Overall: ok ipa

bastarda (506) - Freiburg, GERMANY - AUG 10, 2014
bottled in 3/2014. Maybe stored in a warm place for too long, maybe past its best time, which could maybe explain why this bottle was almost a gusher, (ok, maybe in the car for too long, but with enough time to settle down in the fridge). cooked vegetables-nose, mainly broccoli and leek. Tastewise a tour-de-force: bitter-hops-blast forcing the palate into almost post-dentist numbness. Where are all the aroma-hops gone?

Very acid/sour bitter flavour, somewhat imbalanced. Hazy body and shallow colour. Very malty.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2015 Review according to BJCP2008 guidelines (style 14A). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 10-14. AROMA: low hop aroma with a mild sweet malty background and some cardboard and grain hull notes. APPEARANCE: Orange copper color and very hazy (dry-hopping unknown). Large ivory head with good retention. TASTE: fruity and floral low hop flavour with medium-low malt flavour. moderate bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. finishes dry. PALATE: medium-light body with excessive carbonation. OVERALL: an IPA without much aroma but with average flavours.

freretoc (1935) - Besançon, FRANCE - MAY 5, 2014

Renobob (2063) - Besançon, FRANCE - MAY 4, 2014
Bue en bouteille de 33cl. Attaque douce puis finale sur le houblon. Pas très bien dosée ni équilibrée.
