It has a deep reddish amber body that is very dark but also has good clarity. On top there is a thin light tan head that fades quickly down to a ring of lacy foam. The aroma has just a simple sweet caramel malty presence with no hint of hops at all. The flavor has a candy like sweetness with caramel, light roasted notes and very light floral hops in the background. The palate has a sweet malty finish, soft carbonation and a modest medium body that is very drinkable.

Bottle pour is carbonated coffee color with a slightly-off white head that dissipates quickly. No where near the class of a Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel. Lacks the chocolaty, toasty depth in aroma and palate I expect from a Munich Dunkel. Ayinger has much more body and mouthfeel and finish. Overall, the Spaten is okay if you’re on a budget, but why not spend a little more for the far superior Ayinger.

12oz bottle. Small beige head atop crystal clear copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, light orange/earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some orange, light bread, skunk. Light-medium body, light stickiness, effervescence.

Bottle. Nice and dark. Malty as hell. Nice beer. I like it. Have fun drinking.

330 ml bottle poured into large lager glass. Deep caramel color with a couple of fingers worth of foamy off-white head that sticks around for a few minutes before melting into a slick. Aroma is primarily malt with notes of tobacco and some slight skunkiness. Flavor is predominantly caramel roasted malt with some nuttiness. Light mouthfeel and a faint bitter finish.

An adequate beer, poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass, forming a thin, short-lasting head. Passable with pepperoni pizza. Much better in München with a bratwurst.

trapped (3510) - New York, TURKEY - MAR 27, 2014
Bottle. Dark amber with very small whitish foamy head, caramel aroma, high carbonation, strong caramel taste, thin body, abrupt finish, slight metallic aftertaste. Not very inspiring.

A good solid beer, by one of the best breweries in Munich. Although this is not my favorite dunkel, it is one of my favorite beers by Spaten. This beer is dark colored with rich malty flavor.
