This beer doesn’t seem to be much of a dunkel. Most dunkels I have tried have a roasty flavor to it and this beer is weaker in flavor than other dunkels I have had. The beer isn’t that great and if you want an example of a dunkel then try another one

This one seemed too sweet, lacking the usual roast nature and somewhat smoky nature of a German dunkel. sweetness dominates the aroma and taste, and that’s what is remembered, a cloying sugary taste. Disappointed.

Mahogany hued brew w/ tan head & nice lace. Roasted malt, cocoa, dark fruit aromas. Chocolate, coffee & nut flavors. Smooth & creamy.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2015 Deep brown beer, rocky thick beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, bread, some hops & wine. Well balanced taste with roasty & winy notes. Medium body, Smooth finish with proper amount of hops. Delicious.

Bottle. Red/brown with small tan head. Aroma of light roasted malts. Light body with malt sweetness upfront, roasted malt and caramel notes, and finishes crisp and clean.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2013 Malt-tastic! Sweet malt aroma, roasted malt forwardtaste, sweet/caramel malt aftertaste. A touch of earthiness for balance. Good flavor, but again it seems that this Spaten beer comes across as a bit thin and with too light of a body that doesn’t match the heavy dark appearance. Easy-drinking and smooth for that reason though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Bottle. Pours a clear ruby-brown with a small off-white head. Smell of caramel, cocoa, toffee and roasted malts. Sweet, with caramel, coffee and dark chocolate notes. Medium-bodied, good drinkability. Nice Dunkel.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear but dark ruby brown with a moderate but poorly retained white head with light lacing. Nose is of malt and bread and light notes of carmel. Taste follows the nose with some very slight tart fruity overtones. Medium light body. Much thinner than one would expect for the style but it seems to work and adds to the drinkability. Finish is malt and a slightly sour camel taste. Almost undetectable hop bitterness but still nicely balanced and in no way sweet despite the absence of hoppyness. A great drinkable beer that is unique for it's style and which is very flavorful for having a session beer ABV of 5.2%. A dark beer that is a refreshing thirst quencher without compromising on the taste is quite an achievement. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours ruby/brown with a small ring of lace. Aromas of light candy, some dark fruit, and yeasty note. The flavor follows the aroma but there is a light hint of funk. Drinks easy enough but this off note just made it somewhat ehh.
