COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Ingredients: Water, Barley Malt, Hops & Hop extract.
Sold as Münchner Hell in Germany, München in the UK and Premium in North America.
This beer is our speciality. In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness.

12 oz bottle into a Samuel Smith pint glass. A: Pours a crystal clear golden straw color. I love how translucent the body is, in particular. The head is a two finger white shade; retention isn’t the best, but there’s some really nice lacing left on the glass. S: Aye, it’s a bit skunked (lol, green bottles), but it could have been worse. The notes of pale malts, faint sweetness, and zesty hops aren’t dulled in any significant capacity. T: At first, some of the hop profile comes through with notes of grass and lemon zest, but the finish is pure, balanced, simple malt goodness. In particular, it has a nutty flavor that I really enjoy (that, and the diacetyl is kept in check). Personally, I want more hops; but I won’t complain about the balance this offers. M: Not quite as bone dry as I like my lagers to be - nor is it too sweet. The texture does the best it can to provide good drinkability without significant hoppiness. O: Green bottles mean I wouldn’t buy this one again. However, I would seek it out on tap. An under-appreciated lager unfortunately scorned both by its bottle color and by who makes it.

Bottle at Reading BF 2017. Clear gold lasting white head. i can’t believe I’ve never had this. Cereal aroma with some lemon. Clean basic lemon Munich beer. It’s ok but mostly its carbonation lemon cereal and a little empty. Not great clean though.

Bottle in Wurzburg. Golden clear almost no head. Aroma is not too appetizing. Taste is typical macro helles. Quite bad compared to Paulaner and Augustiner. Don’t know what Michael Jackson saw in this one.

average frothy white head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. clear thin dark-yellow body. aroma: light bread, light hoppy, light yeasty. initial flavor: moderate sweet. final flavor: moderate sweet light bitter; short duration. palate: light medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish. dulçor moderadamente maltado lembra também mel e levedura, muito metalizado no paladar, com final levemente salgado. UPDATED: MAR 26, 2017 0.5 l bottle from local ’trinkgut’ as ’Spaten Münchner Hell’, best before February 2018. Clear, pale straw yellow with a thin, dense, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy and a bit fruity aroma of fresh grass and some citrus. Sweetish, moderately grassy-spicy and minimally fruity taste of fresh grass, some grains and a touch of citrus, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly grassy-spicy and a bit dry finish. Thin to medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Well-balanced, refreshing, very quaffable, overall not bad!

Fluffy white head left a cover on a very active, oraque, light golden body. Minimal aroma of wheat & grass. Medium to thin bodied. Not much carbonation on the palate & a slight tingle on the back. Dry. Very little flavour on the front, just a dull maltiness. This followed by a tangy lemon & floral back.

Aromas of yeast, malt and light hops. Pours clear gold with a white fast dissipating head. Light lacing. Balanced light lager flavors quite malty with yeast overtones. Medium carbonation. Nice crisp lingering finish. A good choice if you’re looking for lager.
