The classic German dark beer, bottom fermented ’Doppel Bock’. Full bodied with a deep dark color and rich roasted malt flavor.

Supposedly only available in USA, at least not in Germany.

Dark brown color, with a frothy tan-colored head, sweet toasted and caramelized malt nose, with a toffeeish accent, brown sugar, hint of dark dried fruits fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a very sweet toasted malt character with some brown sugar, hint of nuttiness, dried raisins and plums fruitiness, leading towards a rich malty finish.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2017 Smells amazing. Has a very malty taste with hints of caramel. Not bitter at all, but not too sweet either. Has a rich roast/toffie smell. Very enjoyable especially in cooler weather.

For the price and ABV, it's hard to beat. This is likely my backup beer in case I was to drink two in a night. I like to open with a fruit based IPA, and then use this as reserve. It's only $9 and 7.6% ABV. You wish Guiness would put together a package like this for price and six beers, but alas. Mostly it's a malty slop of beer, which is what I want sometimes. It's also eminently drinkable.

12oz bottle at home. Dark brown with a fading beige head. Sweet dark malt, roasted notes, toast. Moderate carbonation. Thick, sweet malt finish. Very good.

Twelve ounce bottle from mix 6 pack purchased at Ingles Supermarket in Lake Lure, North Carolina, tasted on July 24, 2017. Cola color, big roasted malt nose, good malty taste with some complexity but compromised by astringency. Maybe the megabrewer has changed this beer, and not for the better.

Dark pour with a thin but tight head. Sweet and malty with lots of dark fruit.

Not much of a nose. Looks like Coca Cola. Taste is complex, lots of caramel. Medium body with a creamy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Color: Dark, small foamy head. Aroma: malty and rich. Taste: bready, toasty, very little hops. Palette: viscous, thick, almost chewy. My favorite doppelbock.

ginotarugo (70) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 28, 2017
Brown almost black in color. Licorice tasting, but not in a good way. Tastes so bad I had to grimace on every sip. I did finally finish the bottle, but it was a chore. Troegenator is my benchmark to compare other Dopplebocks and this one isn’t even in the same league.
