3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Solid beer all around...nice dark brown color with a sweet malty aroma. Excellent taste that isn’t too over the top with sweet malt...slightly bitter and nutty as well. Very drinkable.
Pours a dark brown color. One finger brown head. Okay retention, good lacing. rdixon77 (3064) - Georgia, USA - NOV 7, 2017
Aroma is worchestire sauce. Bready, sweet. Sorghum. Smells odd, but very good.
Taste is malty and sweet. Sorghum. Rich and malty.
Mouthfeel is medium full. Heavy and sweet. Easy to drink.
Overall, this is great. I’m enjoying it. I would recommend, and I would buy it again.
Good doppelbock. Rich, caramel, full bodied. A touch sweet, but it works for me. nohopspleez (84) - Georgia, USA - OCT 30, 2017
A bit much. I like malt, but this is a bit much for me. A good beer that doesnt mind if it is warm or cold - tastes great either way. Bill Becker (1905) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 20, 2017
Thanks for a site that doesnt force everyone to follow "their way" of rating beers according to how many pine cones and nutmeg have been added to the 150 lbs of hopes per bottle. Those sites claim to be your "advocate", but they do little other than sell ads to you and force you to bow to their "wisdom".

Pours from 16.9oz bottle a deep amber with a medium sized head of foam that shrinks to just a ring around the edge of the glass and a little lacing.
The smell is of caramel malt.
The taste on first sip has a huge malt character. Lots of roastiness and grain with just a bit of caramel. Further sips in and I'm getting some of the alcohol but it's not intrusive; also, there's some chocolate and fruitness there, mostly a plum flavour that shows up mostly near the finish which itself ends up slightly on the bitter side. It certainly is smooth enough and easy drinking so I'll have to watch it...;^)
Bottom line: This is a good Doppelbock that is worthy of a try.
On tap. Roasty and slightly creamy aroma. Sharp fruity taste. Boozy finish. It's fine.

Bottle from Merchants. Extra green bottle smell. Aroma is slightly metallic, caramel, some booze, skunked, some toffee, maybe earthy hop, eh. Appearance is reddish brown, light tan head, clear. Taste is caramel, metallic, booze, industrial, unpleasant. Mouthfeel is medium , light carbonation, metallic caramel aftertaste. Overall, not good. higgsbison (270) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 24, 2017
Just had a bottle but I am really buzzed. I think it's just wonderful. Will have to try again straight as a first beer
Nice complexity but overly sweet. Earthy. roasted malt forward with a slight bitter finish

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2017 Pours dark chestnut with light head and minimal lacing. Aroma is toffee and maltiness. Taste is immediate nutty flavor with slight hint of spice. Aftertaste is slightly bitter hoppiness building. A smooth beer, but not particularly complex. pappabear (22) - Granbury, Texas, USA - SEP 6, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2017 Smells amazing. Has a very malty taste with hints of caramel. Not bitter at all, but not too sweet either. Has a rich roast/toffie smell. Very enjoyable especially in cooler weather. DraftCaptain49 (42) - - SEP 5, 2017
For the price and ABV, it's hard to beat. This is likely my backup beer in case I was to drink two in a night. I like to open with a fruit based IPA, and then use this as reserve. It's only $9 and 7.6% ABV. You wish Guiness would put together a package like this for price and six beers, but alas. Mostly it's a malty slop of beer, which is what I want sometimes. It's also eminently drinkable.
