Hazy red brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, dried fruits, caramel malts, vanilla, bourbon, floral hops, citrus fruits, and alcohol. Taste of dark fruits, caramel malts, vanilla, bourbon, nuts, vanilla, and alcohol in the finish. wetherel (1888) - Cupertino, California, USA - DEC 6, 2009
On tap at PP Strong Ale Festiva 2009. Listed as 13.7%. Amber color. Reminds me of Double Bastard. Deliciously hoppy and malty. Very good. JoeMcPhee (9515) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 1, 2010
Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is quite hoppy up front but also has a lot of rich oaky character. Fairly pronounced piny aroma up front as well as a touch of sweet berry esters on the back. The palate is rich and substantially boozy but that is also balanced by a bright hoppiness on the back. A lot of sweet bourbon and a rich spiciness as well. Lots of sweet fruity/piny hoppiness and a rich sticky malt component. Sticky, rich and very, very, tasty. I like it. popery (2170) - San Francisco, California, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Tap at City Beer Store, San Francisco. I wandered into CBS earlier and found myself in the middle of Speakeasy’s release party for their new line of bombers. This excellent barleywine was on tap. It pours a dusky, reddish brown with a small off-white head. The aroma was caramel malt, sherry, apricots, booze and raisins. The flavor was relatively dry for the abv and style, although I still call it fairly sweet in a more general sense. At any rate, I was expecting a sticky mess and was happily surprised. There was some booze but better than expected. I’m sure production costs are a tad higher than Old Godfather, but I’d love to see them bottle this beer. It’s a treat, and I’m sure that it would just get better with age. While the rest of their lineup isn’t bad by any means, this is the first beer from Speakeasy to really impress me. daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - FEB 22, 2010
Woodshop. amber pour. Aroma hits right off with caramel, brown sugar, booze and oak. Flavor has a great vanilla and caramel note with some good citrus/floral hops. The alcohol is hidden well. Great beer. Thanks to Chris for this one!

Big strong nose. Candied citrus, toasted malts, toffee, caramel, earth, wood, alcohol. Reddish amber pour, bubbly beige head, super sticky lace. Super layered flavors. Complex. Fruity sweetness up front - plums perhaps, pears, apples. Candy citrus comes through folowed by toasted dark bread, earthy chewy bitter hops round out the finish with some alcohol bite. Full body, good carbonation, bitey finish. Dry and sweet. Hot, but in a good way if that’s possible. Nice stuff here. bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - DEC 16, 2009
Draft at Naked City. Clear light walnut brown with thin kahki head and sticky bits of lacing. Sweet caramel, cherry, apricot, slight roasted, honeysuckle, with some slight warming from the abv. Really smooth and on the light side for what I was expecting. Caramel popcorn sweetness up front with some toffee, brown sugar, dried prunes, a bit bready and really smooth for the abv and warms as it goes down. Super drinkable and this beer could sneek up on you. Nice stuff. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - FEB 24, 2010
Tap @ RnH. Poured a clear deep amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was sweet, fruity and malty. Notes of marzipan with citrus and piny hops. The flavor was fruity and almost spicy. Could be from the alcohol. It sort of tastes like Juicy Fruit gum. Very warming with a medium body. yespr (47034) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - FEB 25, 2010
From tap. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is dry malty and light roasted. Bitter, dense caramelish and roasted malt base. Smooth dense caramelish finish. Lovely. Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Tap @ Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest 2009. Pours a deep cola brown with a small beige ring. Nose is quite sweet with candied apricots, pears and a good amount of caramel, toffee and booze. Very heavy and full on the palate, tons of caramel and booze.
