Draft. Pours golden amber with a white head. Hoppy aroma with some light sweet malts. The flavor has a nice hoppy bitterness with some toffee like malt notes. Not bad.

2006 vintage Poured into a pint glass a dark amber brown color with a small light brown head. Lacing is good. The nose is really sweet. Chocolate and caramel malt aromas. The flavors are very complex. To be honest I couldn’t even put my finger on everything I was tasting! Mostly chocolate and caramel malt flavors, dark fruits - mostly cherry, with a nice hop bitterness on the finish. At 10.2% the alcohol is very well hidden at this point. The body was fairly medium for a barleywine, with good carbonation. As complex as it is, it is done well. Very balanced and drinkable, this one makes for a damn good barleywine. If you have the chance, cellar this for some time! 3 1/2 years did mine justice. This made my day!

Draught at Taps Pentaluma. Loved it. Ratings here are harsh, but I found the caramel and toffee to be very nice. Alcohol was not intense, though later I could feel that 13%. Very enjoyable and tasty.

Pretty harsh. Alcohol is really in your face. Some whiffs of rubbing alcohol. You must drink it warm to let it bloom and mellow a bit. Big grainy flavor.

Dark in color with a sweet aroma of caramel. Malty caramel flavor that isn’t overly sweet with a bitter note that balances it nicely and makes it pleasantly dry.

bottle, amber color with slight foam, aroma of lots of alcohol, caramel and dark fruit, flavor is much better with only slight amount of alcohol present on the finish, good caramel and hop notes

(bottle - 12 oz) Ruby color with a creamy tan head. Sweet caramel malts at the beginning of the aroma with a light floral hop finish. Flavor is sweet and malty with hints of honey and caramel at the beginning with a bitter hop middle and a bitter and lingering hoppy finish. Alcohol is warming on the way down.

Bottle courtesy of mfielden. Pours a hazy dark amber color with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, honey, floral hops, light honey and earthiness. Flavor is sweet and malty with similar notes of caramel, floral hops, light toffee and spice notes. Generally medium body with a light boozy finish.

Bottle. A nice looking pour; a dark amber color with a small, but persistent head. Aroma was a nice blend of caramel, earth, roasted malt, fruit, citrus and a good dose of pine at the tail end. Flavor was a bit thin and unrefined, almost watery. A lot of earthy and pine notes, with a bit of caramel and a lot of alcohol. This might have needed some more time. Probably one of the worst I have had in the style.
