Bottle. Certainly does strike a superb balance between malts and hops. Pours a dark, rich amber hue with a mild, off-white head. Nose is citrus hops and slight, roasted malts. Flavor has nice, earthy hop bitterness and burnt malt character. A few notes of caramel and coffee. Medium bitterness and sweetness. Smooth, rich body. Finish is tasty with warm, roasty malt aftertaste. Flavor could be a bit more robust but overall this is a great beer. fiulijn (21506) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 19, 2008
Bottle from the Freakin’ Frog, Las VegasOakes (19363) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 4, 2003
Red-amber color. It has a moderate hoppy aroma, a bit resiny. The mouthfeel is quite dry, with dry toffee flavor, but with a fair hopping. Pleasant, as usual from Speakeasy.
Dark cherry amber. Caramel, nuts, orange in the aroma. Bitter, rooty body with long caramel notes. rlgk (18843) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 15, 2016

Very rich sweet malty aroma, grainy and a touch smoky wooliness - this seems more like a scotch ale than just an amber ale. Full smooth palate, a bit sweet and heavy. Pleasantly nutty and woody, sweetish too. Finish has a nice dry hoppiness. Kinda nce beer.
On tap at City, San Francisco. A dark amber beer topped by a finger-thick light beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is on the hoppy side, with some maltiness. Caramel too, also in the flavor. Nice bitterness, piney hops and a touch of dark bread. Pleasant carbonation, soft and at an appropriate level. Caramel notes and bitterness in the swallow. A decent beer indeed, but not very interesting. 130804 Ferris (17070) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 14, 2014
Bottle - Pine notes and a caramel backbone. Clear amber with a bubbly brown head. Lots of toffee with a resinous hoppy bitterness. Finish is very dry and bitter. The finish is what prevents this beer from being awesome. Benzai (16917) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - OCT 29, 2015
Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear dark red-brown color with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is malts, hops, resin. Taste malts, hops, resin, hint of caramel, sticky hops, nice bitterness. Decent body and carbonation. Nice one. brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - JUL 28, 2016
On tap @ Speakeasy. Amber in color with an off-white head. Pretty straightforward amber ale here, though perhaps a little bit extra hop flavor and aroma than your typical crappy brewpub amber ale. Nice mix of caramel, toffee, and bready malts with a light bitterness of pine, citrus, and herbal hops. Light to moderate bitterness balance out the sweetness pretty nicely. It’s a fine enough beer.
