This has a fair amount of malt that carries the bitterness. There isnt a lot more to say than that, unspectacular.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Redwood City, CA. Pours a dark cherry cola color with a frothy head. Aroma is roasted malts and hops. Taste is roasted malts, burnt sugar, hops, spicy earth, pepper. A little dirty / ashy on the finish. Interesting but not especially rewarding.

Bottle from Lemon Tree, dated 11/18/13. Big green hop smell right out of the bottle! I also get whiffs of sweet chocolate as the foamy head settles down, dont know why. Dark brown color, big spongy head. By the time I taste it, the hop nose has settled, leaving a big spicy rye flavor. Nope, the hop bitterness is still there, on my teeth. Spice gives that note of cocoa, also some cinnamon and the snap of a wheat cracker.

Earthy, woody, resinous hop aroma with spicy rye Pours deep red brownish color with lasting frothy yellowish head. Taste the rye more in the flavor than aroma. Great balance with the resinous earthy hop character, bready malt Medium bodied with medium co2, lingering spicy rye and earthy hop finish. Very enjoyable rye beer. Interesting and refreshing enough to drink a few of these without getting bored ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Luscious ruby tones under a collar of fluffy cream coloured head. Good clarity. The aromas are spicy and of picante peppers as well as old hops. It has a silky and creamy mouthfeel and carries that spicy flavour quite well along with piquant bitterness. Enjoyable beer that is good, but not stunning. Probably consumed best somewhere near the brewery I would imagine.

Pours clear coppery red-brown with a 1-finger tan head. Aroma of nutty malt with notes of peppery rye and citrus hops. Medium body, a touch oily, with a mild dryness in the finish. A nice backbone of nutty malt lies beneath citrusy hops, with a mild note of peppery rye.
