COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Powerful, decadent, united by barrels and graceful age, Syndicate No. 03 is ready to break from the shadows. This rare barrel-aged beer features a blend of seven different strong ales matured between 13-37 months in bourbon barrels. Syndicate No. 03 will be released in our Tap Room this Friday, December 11, at 1pm. Then it will be shipped to a limited number of U.S. states (see list below).

Every barrel in our collection was sampled and carefully considered to create an extraordinary blend. Together they form a unique, elegant, delicious, and complex beer, that won’t be repeated.

The Blend:
Scarface Imperial Stout, aged 13 months (46%)
Imperial Black Hand, aged 37 months (18%)
Experimental Stout II, aged 20 months (12%)
Experimental Stout III, aged 19 months (11%)
Imperial Payback Porter, aged 19 months (10%)
Scarface Imperial Stout with Philz Coffee, aged 13 months (2%)
Joe’s Ale of Strength, aged 18 months (1%)

The beer pours black as night with a golden brown head. Aromas of vanilla, coffee, oak, molasses, licorice, dark chocolate, and toffee, rise from the glass. Upon first sip, chocolate and coffee flavors continue to build, coalescing with raisins, dates, currants, a touch of black pepper, and tobacco. This beer is dessert, reminiscent of rum cake and tiramisu, but it’s not overly sweet. It’s balanced, creamy, medium to full bodied, with a toasty finish at 10.5% ABV.

Syndicate No. 03 will be sold in bottles and on draft at our Tap Room on Friday, December 11, beginning at 1pm. It will start arriving in stores the following week, first in the San Francisco Bay Area, then throughout a select number of U.S. states. We recommend aging Syndicate No. 03 for at least six months. It will reveal new flavors and complexity over time. Serve the beer at 50-55° to enjoy its full character.

ineedbeer (2270) - Oakland, California, USA - JUL 30, 2016
Poured from a 22oz bottle. Aroma is rich and malty with lots of chocolate, caramel and toffee. Light roast notes with some toasted bread. Moderate bourbon notes with some lighter oak. A touch of alcohol with some raisin, fig and prune notes. Pours black with some dark brown hues on the edges and a thick, medium small, mocha head that recedes steadily to thee edges where it lingers for a bit. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is moderately sweet and malt forward. Lots of caramel and toffee with some lighter chocolate notes. Some burnt sugar notes as well. Medium notes of raisin with some lighter fig and prune notes. Moderate bitterness. Medium light bourbon notes with a bit of oak. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice dark barleywine; a good cross between a stout and barleywine. Nice malt notes with some good bourbon and oak character. Alcohol isn’t too strong and well hidden behind the malt.
