COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by traditional refectory ales brewed by monks for the monks’ table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, a manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach.

2018-01-13. Pale yellow amber body modest head. 3+ Aroma has a sweetish bready pale malt character. Flavour is similar, bready pale malt base, light bitterness. Touch of honey like notes. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Enjoyable. 7/3-4/7/3/15 Bottle shared by mds.

Pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a warm frothy cap, good stay and some thick foamy lace. Fruity malt aromas with orange notes and Belgian Ale yeast, on the mild side. The taste is quite cereal malt like with the oranges in the background. A nice light blend of hops and the yeast lingers. A pretty easy-drinking Belgian Ale.

750 ml bottle. Hazy golden colour, dense white head. Fruity, peppery aroma with banana & citrus notes. The taste is malty, with notes of citrus and yeast, and a spicy finish. Simple but tasty.

750ml corked and caged bottle pours and looks like a darker blonde or golden Belgian ale. Taste and aromas pale orchard and tropical fruit, phenolic spice and minty grassy hop. Really simple and good.

Mooie Trappist!

A nice discovery from the LCBO, wanted to try it with family on Christmas day as a surprise gathering at my sister-in-law. Worth a try.

It pours hazy translucent gold with copper tones; the head is off-white and mousse like. The aroma has notes of: citrus-zest, pepper, yeast, and steamed vegetables. The taste light lightly sweet that finishes crisp and bitter. The palate is medium bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel; the carbonation is medium, and the finish is long. Overall, this is really more a saison than a Trappist style beer - IMHO.

750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a hazy, slightly dull golden colour with small whiteish head. Aroma is quite fruity with tree, tropical fruits, spice, grains and herbs. Flavour has apple, banana, lemon, clove, straw and herbal character. Body a little lighter than expected. Nice.
