3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A healthy beige head mostly stays above the clear copper with ruby tinges. Woohoo, more smokey than anticipated. There’s plenty of beechwood smoke in there, bringing forth woodsy, tobacco, leafy and earthy notes, but in a rather candied Munich malt profile where nuttiness has a vegetal lactone connotation and vanilla hints. From the nose, it smells like it’s going to be sweet. Yet in mouth, while its bock nature introduces a malt forward and hop timid nature, the generous smoke provides a nice counterbalance and in a way, so does the beer’s leanliness. It is fairly thin for a beer of this stature and this makes it seem less in your face caramelly sweet. Plenty of bready and cerealic nuances to the maltiness. Tasty product that can be regarded as an easy drinker, as a captivating food matcher and as a rather complex beverage on its own.
rookbier met een lichte body bbq, rozenbottel en een beetje rookworst niet verkeerd maar ook niet de beste in z’n klasse maar wel ok KimJohansen (10492) - Frederiksberg C, DENMARK - NOV 25, 2016
Clear mahogany with a medium off white head. Aroma had sweet roasted malt, caramel and hints of smoke. Flavor was sweet with roasted and smoked malt. Finished sweet. Ritzn (1412) - GERMANY - NOV 22, 2016
Brown/ruby with big beige head. Aroma is lots of caramel, raisins and bacon. Taste is sharp sweetness with umami bacon. Quite heavy and thick. Not for me! SinH4 (4797) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - NOV 21, 2016
Rating #3333, tap. Ruby-brown color with tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel malts, a nice smokyness as well. Taste is raisins, caramel, malty, quite noticeable booziness that induces a warming finish. Oily mouthfeel. A beautiful Rauchbock! jonas (7588) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - NOV 20, 2016
Tap at Spezial. Deep chestnut, lovely dark creamy head. Woodsmoke nose. Fruity berry malt base, chewy smoke, herbal hop counterpoint.

Frisch vom Hahn in der Brauereigaststätte getrunken. Klares Braunkupfer mit schnell schwindenem Schaum. Vom ersten Eindruck eher ein Rauchlager. Aber der erste Eindruck trügt ... kajser27 (1807) - Zagreb, CROATIA - MAY 31, 2016

0.5 l bottle at 6.7% abv from ’De Bierkoning’, best before April 2016. Clear, very dark red with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, faintly smoky aroma of smoked ham, dark chocolate, raisins and caramel. Sweet-malty, slightly smoky taste of raisins, caramel, dark chocolate and smoked ham, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter finish with dark chocolate and faint notes of smoke. Medium to full body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Less intense notes of smoke than expected, just broadening to the complexity of this bock a bit. Good, clearly behind Schlenkerla Urbock though. DwarfeD (3513) - Amersfoort, NETHERLANDS - NOV 21, 2015
