Pours amber with thin white head. Nose is salty/smoky with a little astringent bite. The flavor is very smoky, smoked meats (summer sausage?) and tobacco. Finishes with an olive flavor. Pretty complex but not my style. beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - DEC 13, 2005
Very nice light bodied rauchbier that didn’t overpower the palate with smoke and instead brought forth a nice cigar like flavor and light spiciness. This really got away from that smokenormous style and more into the smoketastic universe. The smoke comes out with a spicy tobbaco flavor like a nice cigar with a long trailing sweetness after it. Very nice subtle notes that balance this out into a great all around beer that doesn’t overwhelm the senses. robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - DEC 13, 2005
Amber Coloring with White Ring. Very Smokey Aroma. ’Holy Hotdog Batman’. Sweet But Really Smoked with Hotdogs Flavor. Light on the Mouthfeel. FROTHINGSLOSH (8164) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 12, 2005
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2007 I am still not sure what I think about rauchbiers in general. Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large tan head. The aroma was light smoke. The flavor is light grainy malts with a smoky woody flavor. The smoke lingers on the palate. jimmack (1223) - Nutley, New Jersey, USA - DEC 4, 2005
500ml. bottle. I am finally starting to enjoy rauchbiers, but this one let me down a bit. Aroma was very mild. Sweet malt with a little smoke in the background. The smoke comes out more in the flavor thankfully. Not as "meaty" a smoke flavor as some others, but more of a wood smoke. A bit thin bodied, but overall an enjoyable beer.

bottle. pours a thick-looking copper body with a off-white fizzy head. well, the aroma does have some earthy smokiness to it but it’s very mild and subdued. this is a lot thinner and less flavourful than other smokes I’ve had. carbonation is lively. the flavour is sweet with tea-like flavours and only fine notes of smoke in the finish. not too crazy about this one. badgerben (5341) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - NOV 12, 2005
Dark copper color with no head. Sweet smoke aroma with some meats. It reminded me of sloppy joes. More oddly sweet smoke in the taste with a grainy background. A little watery. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - NOV 11, 2005
Bottle. Pours a Moderate brown color with a slight haze to it. Nice whitish head forms and fades slowly over time, never really fading away, leaving great lacing behind. Aroma is rather mild, reminiscent of a standard lager with a touch of smoke thrown in for fun. Light bodied, palate feels downright watery most of the time. This is probably the way the beer should be but I am looking for something a bit more substantial. Light tingly smoke flavors blend with sweet malt and a spiceyness from the hops. Pretty well done, goes nicely with bacon, fried eggs and hasbrowns for a late breakfast. bmanning (142) - Holly Springs, North Carolina, USA - OCT 31, 2005
Pours amber color with a large tan head that left excellent lacing. Aroma is of smoked meat, but it’s not as strong of a smoke smell as most rauchbiers. There are also some caramel malts and floral hops in the aroma. The smoked flavor isn’t overpowering in the taste, but this beer is just too thin and watery. There is some nice complexity to the flavor though - cedar, bratwurst, apple, caramel, BBQ pork. Would be an excellent beer if it didn’t taste so watered down. pilsnerrogge (3005) - Finspång, SWEDEN - OCT 23, 2005
(On tap @ the brewpub) Amber coloured with a weak head. Malty, ash-y aroma with notes of tea. Malty, sweet, somewhat smoked flavour. Low bitterness.
