3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
The first lager I’ve had in like...a year. Here we go...
A: Smells just like a smoked sausage. Amazing aroma. Smooth and balanced.
A: Looks like a lager... light on bubbles. Crystal clear. Amber color.
T: While there isn’t anything bad about this, there isn’t anything great either. Well balanced with the smoke but drinks much like a soda water. For the style though, this is very nice.
P: Sits fine but its like water.
Overall for the style this is a pretty solid beer. It brings something unique to a lager and is overall smooth. But, being a lager it’s very light and there just aren’t the other flavors there that would make it something great (like the marzen version... that was great). If you’re new to beer check this out for sure. If you like ales... go for one of the other versions.
Bottle, one month before bbd. Pours oak coloured golden, with a big creamy, off white head. Aroma is smoked malts, with bread, bonfire and wooden barrels, as well as leather and heather. Medium body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is smoked malts, with bread, caramel, leather, wood and bonfire smoke. JStax (6505) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUN 29, 2017
7 year opf bottle shared at muckfest by mrmuck. The beer is a murky amber color with a beige head of foam. The aroma has paper, raisin, smoke, and grainy notes. More sweet than anything. The smoke comes through, but more as an afterthought. Medium body and medium carbonation. Not as bad as it could have been. phaleslu (10271) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 29, 2017
Bottle shared by thebaldwizard. Thanks, Muck! 2007 vintage. Pours a clear amber with no head. This is oxidized to hell. Tons of cardboard. Smoke, peat, some residual sugars and sweetness. Light-bodied, with low carbonation. I need to rerate a fresh one. beerstar88 (587) - Bavaria, GERMANY - MAY 11, 2017
Das Lager ist mein Favorit unter den Rauchbieren. Der Rauch ist nicht zu dominant, wie z.B. beim Schlenkerla. Herrlich süffig. rader (8) - Ostfildern, Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - MAY 1, 2017 does not count
Riecht leicht nach Schwarzwälder Schinken und schmeckt auch so, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Super zu Steak oder Fleisch generell

0,5l Flasche. Bernsteinfarben, heller Schaum. Rauchiges schwarzwälder Schinken Aroma. Antrunk Rauch und Malz. Durchsus noch süffig. Leichte Malzsüsse, etwas Hopfen. Abgang Rauch und Asche. Cristobal37 (1143) - Budapest, HUNGARY - APR 22, 2017
Bottle from getranke Fritze, Wurzburg. Beef jerky aroma. Big smoky malt forward beer. Smoked salmon skin, sticky mouthfeel, filling but still balanced. Smokier than Schlenkerla’s Lager. Fantastic Bamberger smoked bier! Werckmeister (3184) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - APR 19, 2017
0,5l bottle at home from trade with Maracuja05, big thanks. BB 09.05.2017. dark brown color, small off-white head. smells of bacon, light smoke, spices, some caramel, nice smell. medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes rather light, some bread, light sausages, spices, caramel, bit of smoke. finishes lightly sweet with notes of caramel, spices and some sausages. quite nice one, rather light (both smoke / bacon and body), but this makes it quite smooth to drink. biir (1363) - Berlin, - APR 18, 2017
Tap at the brewery - mahagoni color, white head. taste is smoke, less intense than the Märzen. Highly drinkable. dark malts and wood, medium sweet. refreshing. a very nice Smoked. Cerbier (805) - - APR 12, 2017
0,5l Flasche. Rötlich braunes Bier mit einer schönen Schaumkrone. Malziger Geruch untermalt von einer Rauch oder. All dies wird im Geschmack bestätigt. Ausgewogen!
