UPDATED: SEP 9, 2010 Smells lightly of smoke, an orange lager. Had ontap this time in Bamberg. Much milder than Schlenkerla, but also able to drink more often because of that. First score 3.5A little creamy and soapy aroma, with smoke much later. Pretty tame in the amount of smokiness, but that actually makes it smoother and more manageable than many others. Could actually drink a whole one of these. Quite nice. rader (8) - Ostfildern, Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - MAY 1, 2017 does not count
Riecht leicht nach Schwarzwälder Schinken und schmeckt auch so, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Super zu Steak oder Fleisch generell Mads Langtved (2243) - Copenhagen K, DENMARK - JUN 12, 2003
This beer is perhaps more easy to drink than Aecht Sclenkerla. It is a good beer to start with, if you have not tried Smoked beer before. I find this beer even more sophisticated than Sclenkerla. More soft smoked taste, with a pleasant warm malty "nachspiel" MrWalker (926) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 14, 2006

Wow, this is one of my favourite German lagers. And served on tap, here in Stockholm! Just great. Went to the bar for just one beer, ended up with four quick ones of this wonderfull brew... Of course it has a smokey aroma and taste, but not as much in-your-face as Schlenkerla. This is far more elegant. Malts and hops are in very good balance and the gentle sweetness is combined with a great soft mouthfeel. Served in perfect condition and perfect temperature with the right amount of carbon dioxide. A beer not to miss!
lucent mahogany, soft medium body, light co2.

T1= hop water, sweet smoke.
T2= leafy hops, slight smoke, bready malt.
T3= some hop oil, a trace of smoke, a bit of dark malt, but fairly clean.
nicely malty, clean for style, just enough hops and co2 to pair well with food.

The taste is very smoky but not penetrant good balanced with other malts and a bit hop flavour. A intensiv Smoked Beer that I could drink everyday because it´s fantastic. This is with distance my favourite Smoked Beer from Frankonia. Grzesiek79 (4295) - Radom, POLAND - JUN 5, 2012

I travelled for two days to drink this beer on the place. And it was worth it. To sit in the gasthaus and drink it lightly warmed to the food was perfect. It has a lightly smoke aroma and a lightly smoke flavor. To see them serve it from tap and warming it for two seconds with an immersion heater beats the most. And when you have drink it up you want a new immediately SudsMcDuff (8428) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - FEB 22, 2011
A milder Smoked beer but still very quaffable and enjoyable .. dark tan, good foam .. . clean, light smoke, nutty, cured meat, ..awesome! .. . as others have mentioned- quite light on smoke but still a great brew! .. . When I’m done, our students will be so smart, they’ll be able to program their VCRs without spilling piping hot gravy all over myself.
