Off white smooth standing cream, clear copper body, puffy small lacing. Brown malts, peat, tar, basement, leafy hops to the nose. Tarish malts and a solid fruitiness to the taste buds, leading to a smooth malty finish with smokey notes. Overall a good brew. [50cl brown bottle 5.3%abv BB10-09-2015 , [email protected]

Very dark reddish amber appearance. Powerful smokey notes, caramel and smoke taste, intensive and rich. Very good smoked beer.

Gravity keg from the source at the Spezial brewery in Bamberg-Germany. Pours filtered Amber color, ivory brownish tick head. Vivid texture! Nose: mild provola cheese, smoked meat. Mouth: medium carbonation, mild body, mild smoke feel in a full bodied brink which is more complex than their regular smoked lager but never invasive. A very hide but distinctive herbal end.

500ml bottle [this item of Bamberger BRauchtum has kindly been placed at my disposal by bartlebier]. Clear, deep copper colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Smoky aroma with well-known ham fragrance in appropriate intensity. Taste is dry, smoky, minimally leathery, a touch of sticking-plaster, subtle sweetness. Lacks a bit of body to fully integrate the smoky spillover. If I had to explain the difference to Schlenkerla’s gems, I’d say: This simply hasn’t the capacity to stimulate imagination (or associative power) in the same amount. Brunrödsvart vätska med kaffefärgat skum. Ljuvlig doft med lite inslag av rökighet och tjärpastill. Fantastiskt välavvägd balans i beska och sötma. Bra rökis!
Bottle 50cl, kindly shared by Bartlbier many thanks. An amber beer with low head, nose is very intense on smoked notes. Aroma is on caramel, lot of smoked notes, wet wood, peppery hops, grainy, bit rough at the beginning but the aroma and complexity became more evident at the finish, vegetable notes, cereals, good smoke, a quite robust beer.
